Erica slipped into her room and closed the door behind her, pressing a hand to her chest as she tried to calm her racing heartbeat.
What just happened? she thought, mind swirling.
It wasn’t the first time she had been close to a man. She had danced with Anay before, in far closer proximity, her body pressed against his in rhythm, yet nothing had ever made her feel like this.
Her breaths came in quick, uneven gasps, and a warmth spread through her that both confused and unsettled her. Every nerve in her body seemed alert, every inch of her reacting in ways she didn’t understand.
Why am I feeling this now? she wondered, pressing her hand harder to her chest, trying to steady herself. Something about him—about Kabir—was different. It was electrifying, intoxicating, and she didn’t know whether to be scared or exhilarated.
For the first time, Erica realized: proximity didn’t always mean familiarity.

At Erica's House
Erica sat on her bed, her mother and Diva flanking her.
“Erica beta, are you upset with us?” her mother asked softly, concern etched across her face.
“No, Mumma! Why would you think that?” Erica replied quickly, a hint of defensiveness in her voice. “If anything, I should be asking you—have you forgiven me for the embarrassment I caused?”
Her mother shook her head gently. “Beta, we didn’t even call you after your marriage. Your pagphera rasam wasn’t done according to the customs… and actually, beta, just a week after your marriage, your father had a minor attack.”
“What? And you didn’t tell me?” Erica’s voice cracked slightly, shock rooting her to the spot.
Her mother sighed, voice gentle but tinged with worry. “Your father didn’t want to bother you. When we admitted him to the hospital, Diva and I were so tense, we didn’t know what to do. That’s when Diva contacted Kabir… he came immediately, beta. He helped us immensely during that time.”
Diva nodded, releasing a shaky breath. “And you know, Papa wanted to get me married immediately after his discharge, thinking—what would happen if something went wrong? He was even planning to stop my studies. But Jiju convinced him otherwise… and I got spared.”
Erica’s mind raced. So much had happened in the last few months, and she hadn’t known a thing. Kabir had helped her family—quietly, efficiently, without informing her—and she had been completely unaware. She sat back, lost in thoughts, the weight of the revelation settling over her.
Her mother reached over, touching her hand gently. “I know he doesn’t talk much, but he’s a gem, beta,” she said with a soft smile.
“Yes, di!” Diva added, a small laugh escaping her lips. “When I thanked him for saving me, all he said was… hmm…” She mimicked Kabir’s deadpan expression, laughter dancing in her eyes.
Erica simply listened, her mind swirling with disbelief and awe.
“What… what are you, Kabir?” she thought, her heart catching at the realization that there was far more to him than she had ever imagined.

Kabir and Erica sat at the dining table with everyone. The table was loaded with all kinds of dishes, the aroma of a typical Punjabi lunch filling the room. Erica’s mind raced—Will Kabir even eat this?—when she saw him take a bite. He paused for a second, chewing slowly, before swallowing.
Something in his expression made her frown. She took a bite herself—everything was perfectly fine. The salt, the flavors… just slightly spicy, as her family liked it. Her eyes widened in realization. Of course! He’s not used to this!
“How’s it, beta?” Erica’s mother asked, smiling warmly at Kabir.
He swallowed with a gulp and forced a small smile. “It’s good,” he said, his voice calm but slightly strained. Then, as if nothing had happened, he finished everything on his plate, biting off the spice one morsel at a time.
After lunch, the goodbyes were said, and they climbed into the car. Kabir was fastening his seatbelt, and Erica couldn’t help but notice his slightly reddened lips and the way he exhaled through his mouth—clearly the food had gotten to him.
Erica pulled out a chocolate, holding it out to him. So that it could sooth him.
He shook his head, clearly refusing as if he wasn't struggling.
Erica realised he won't budge, So taking a bite herself and, without giving him a chance to protest, shoved the chocolate into his mouth.
Kabir froze, eyes wide, staring at her in shock. Then, slowly, the chocolate soothed the burn in his mouth, and he began to chew.
Erica couldn’t hold it in—she burst out laughing, a loud, carefree laugh that she hadn’t done in months. She pressed a hand to her mouth, trying to calm herself, but the laughter only bubbled up more.
Kabir looked away, exhaling through his nose in mild exasperation, yet Erica caught it—a tiny, almost imperceptible smile tugging at the corner of his lips. He curbed it immediately, but Erica saw it.
And that little smile… it made her laugh even harder.

Anay didn't see Erica from the morning he asked smriti about it she told him about their lunch at Erica's place.
Anay felt annoyed listening to this Erica was not giving him a chance to clarify and she is giving all her to Kabir!!! He thought

After coming back ,Erica got a call from her mother.
"Erica beta, you both reached!" She said
"Yes mumma!!! Everything is fine " Erica
" Erica are you happy na beta!!!" Her asked slowly.
"Yes mumma ...why are you asking this again." She said
"Beta I wanted to say something to you but because of diva i didn't!!! I know Erica your marriage happened in very difficult circumstances but I want you to give this marriage a chance....kabir is very nice guy beta ...he is not like Anay , I heard he came back to his house...Erica my baby you are a married woman now ...you have a certain responsibility....give this marriage a fair chance beta and please don't trap yourself in the past...Anay should never come between you and Kabir ...he is a thing of past beta...I hope you understand!! She said
Erica listened to everything quietly and said " I understand your point mumma" she looked at the balcony where Kabir was talking to someone on the call.
"I will give this marriage a chance" she said , she had tear in her eyes but her voice was firm.
" Take care beta" her mother cut the call.
Erica was still looking at Kabir "and what about him mumma , will he give this marriage a chance?" She said to herself. The thought of being imposed on him clouding her mind.
