Long chapter ahead

Erica stood at the terrace, her fingers wrapped tightly around the railing as she gazed out into the distance. Anay's footsteps approached slowly, and he came to stand beside her, making his presence known. She briefly glanced at him before turning her gaze back to the view.

"I am sorry for your loss, Erica," Anay began. He let out a sigh "I won't lie to you... your pregnancy was not good news for me. But still, I never wanted anything like that to happen to you."

Erica remained silent, her expression unreadable.

"Actually, whatever happened was not for you, but for the man you are with. He definitely doesn't deserve a child. Maybe that's why God did this."

"Can you just please shut up? I don't want to talk," Erica interjected, her voice tense.

"I know you have developed a soft corner for him," Anay continued. "I so wish I could tell you what he thinks about you and this relationship in which you are so invested."

"Look Anay, I don't want your opinion on my marriage, okay? Whatever we both have is none of your business; it's between him and me." Erica said getting irritated by him comments.

Anay wore a sarcastic smile as he turned his face sideways. "You don't know him, Erica! You can't imagine what kind of person he is. You think you can change him. My mom tried her best to get close to him, my dad and even I, since I was born, tried to build a healthy relationship with him, but he didn't have a heart, so it never melted. You are a pawn to him, which he is using to hurt me. But I know you won't believe me."

Erica remained silent as if she is not listening what he is saying.

He took a few steps back as if to leave and said, "Everything is business for him, Erica. I hope you will understand this someday," before walking away.

Erica watched him go, trying to appear unaffected by his words, but they were making an impact on her. The conversation between Kabir and Anay at the office, which she had overheard, echoed in her mind. She tried to look away, but the words lingered, leaving her in turmoil.

2 days went by after this ... during this time Kabir took care of Erica but no words exchange between them as Erica didn't take any interest

One night…

Erica was walking past Kabir’s office room when she heard his voice. He was on a work call, his tone serious and clipped.

"You’ve prepared everything, right? There should be no mistake. We’ve been working on this for six months—day and night. This deal has to be finalized, Saurav. If needed, take a few more people for assistance, okay? I’ll be there on time. Make sure everyone else is too."

She stopped outside, listening quietly. She didn’t do anything. Just turned away and went to bed.

The next morning…

Kabir was in a hurry. He slipped one arm into his coat when Erica came running toward him—and without a word, wrapped her arms around him tightly.

Kabir froze for a second, surprised.
