Chapter 24

Violet's POV:

The work day went so slow but eventually it was time for dinner. I grabbed my food and looked around but didn't see Clem anywhere. I walked over to our table with the group, they also looked concerned.

"Have you guys seen Clem?"

"No. We were just talking about it."

I heard someone snicker from the left and turned my head to see a military man giggling.

"Y'all talking about the girl in the hat right?"

"Why are you laughing?!"

"Because I just got back from driving the truck that brought them to their deaths."

"WHAT!?"

"I was given orders to take them to the most dangerous spot around, act like it was a rescue mission, then take off. Leave them stranded. Go back in a few days to finish them off once they turn."

I felt the tears well in my eyes.

"I'm going to kill you with my bare hands."

That made the man laugh.

"Sure you will sweetheart."

I sat back down at the table, tears falling.

"Guys what do we do? I can't. I can't lose her."

"Violet. You heard him. He has to go back in a couple of days to make sure they're gone. We're all going to stow away in the car. We're going to pack up all the clothes we can and get the other girl's stuff too. Then we get in the back of the truck, kill him, then make a run for it. Then we can regroup and take down the Delta for good.";

"Louis. When did you become a genius?"

"When they decided to try and kill my friend."

"Do you think she can hold out?"

"I don't know. I don't know where he took them. All we can do is hope she stays a badass long enough for us to help."

I nodded at him as the group got up to give me a hug, then we headed home. Falling asleep that night was the hardest it's ever been without Clem there with me.

Clementine's POV:

I watched the truck drive away as my squad panicked.

"Guys!"

They all focused on me full attention.

"I'm sorry I got you all into this. I should've known they wanted me dead, and now you guys are involved."

"It's okay they hated us too. We fought back at the start. Which is probably why we ended up on your squad, so they could get rid of all of us."

"I'm not going to let that happen."

"Cap.."

"Stop calling me that. It's Clem."

"Clem. The stories about this place are terrifying. I don't know if we can do this."

"Well then I'll die trying to get you all out of here."

They nodded at me as we readied our guns.

"I hear them. We need to clear it out until there is a room we can hide in.They'll come back at some point to make sure we're all dead. That's when we attack."

"Got it."

"Sounds good."

"You guys ready to go in? Everyone may not come back out alive."
