Chapter 26

Clementine's POV:

I was so exhausted but when I felt the truck stop moving I opened my eyes to see the gate of the school.

"Oh my god, we're home. Lily's going to come here and kill us all. You guys should've stayed there and kept yourselves safe to plan a get out."

"Absolutely not. Clem take this bag with clean clothes, go wash off and go to our room to sleep. Omar starts making some food, and the rest of Clem's squad come with me and I'll show you your new room.

"Are you sure that we can stay here with you guys?"

"Of course, Clem loves you guys so you're family now. Just uh...be ready to possibly die when Lily comes to our door AGAIN unless we go after her first."

"Are you serious you guys saved us. We're going to protect this place with everything we have."

I watched as Violet led the others to their new rooms and I just stood there taking everything in. I only snapped back to reality when I heard the door to the dorms open and close again.

"Clem?"

"Hm?"

"You okay babe?"

"Yeah. Just thinking how happy I am to be back and alive. I just can't believe I lost so many."

"That was not your fault Clem."

"I know. It just hurts."

"We'll get her back."

"Oh I already have a plan."

"You do?"

"Yeah. I'm so tired, so I'm going to sleep, but tomorrow we will take all of the resources we still have and build new defenses. Then we go out and scavenge places near us to get even more and we make this place a fortress. Then we find more weapons and actually arm ourselves. Then we can start a plan to attack the Delta. My old people are going to want me dead. I'm not giving them that satisfaction. They're going to send everyone after us. We need to be ready. Then once we know we are protected one hundred percent we fight. This won't end till me or Lily and her minions are dead. Then after them, who knows who's still out there that hates me, that we'll run into and do this all over again."

"Clem."

"God. I can't just be left alone-"

"CLEMENTINE!"

I stopped talking and just looked at Violet who was staring at me with eyes of worry.

"Stop it. No more talking like this. I've already told you. We're going to end the Delta and then anyone else who fucks with us or you until we are safe. Okay?"

"Yeah. Yeah you're right. I'm sorry."

She hugged me and said nothing else.

"Let's go to bed. We need to get up early and hunt for food while everyone builds defenses."

"Yeah. Yeah. I'm exhausted."

"I know babe."

She gave me a sad smile and walked with me to the dorm with her arm around my waist. We got into bed and she just held me. Tighter than she ever had before and I felt safer than I ever have before. As much as I wanted to fight sleep to stay in this moment with Violet it quickly consumed me and I soon drifted off to sleep.
