Johnnie is seated on the couch. Scrolling on his phone, just minding his own business. When Carrington comes and sits next to him.
Carrington chuckled, setting his phone down on the table. He turned his attention to Johnnie, resting his chin on his hand. "Hey, whatcha doing?"
"Just scrolling," Johnnie replied. Since Carrington was sitting so close, the roommate can visibly see the old scars on Johnnie's arms.
Carrington noticed the scars, and his gaze flicked down to them. His expression softened as he leaned in a bit closer, studying them with a mixture of curiosity and concern."Are those... old scars?" he asked gently, his voice laced with a hint of worry.
Johnnie looked over. He clicked his phone off. And noticed Carrington is looking at his arm.
Carrington continued to look at the scars, his eyes tracing the patterns on Johnnie's skin.
He reached out, gently running his fingers over one of the scars."How did you get these?" he asked softly, his touch light and tender.
"Oh." Johnnie managed to get out, since this is a sensitive topic for him to discuss. He rubbed his arm and smiled nervously, clearing his throat.
Carrington immediately picked up on the nervousness in Johnnie's voice and expression. He withdrew his hand, realizing he had crossed a line.
"Sorry, I didn't mean to make you uncomfortable," The roommate said apologetically, his eyes filled with concern. "You don't have to talk about it if you don't want to."
"No, i can talk about it." Johnnie replied as he got up and grabbed a hoodie that was draped over the chair in the room. He slipped it on and pulled it over his arms.
Carrington watched as Johnnie put on the hoodie, covering up the scars. He could tell that this was a sensitive topic for him, and he respected his decision to cover up.
"Alright," he said softly, shifting his position on the couch to face Johnnie. "Take your time."
Johnnie rubs his sleeve now as he looked visibly uncomfortable for a moment.
Carrington could see the discomfort in Johnnie's expression and body language. He leaned back on the couch, giving him some space and trying to make him feel more comfortable.
"Hey, you don't have to tell me anything if you're not ready," he reassured gently. "I don't want you to feel pressured."
"No, it's alright." Johnnie replied as he fidgets with the rings on his fingers. He cleared his throat.
Carrington nodded, giving Johnnie a small, encouraging smile. He waited patiently for him to continue, sensing that he was trying to find the right words.
Johnnie bit his lip before he started to speak, "Well, you know my dad died when i was a teenager."
Carrington nodded again, his expression turning sympathetic as he listened to Johnnie speak. He had heard about his father's passing before, but he hadn't known the full story.
"I'm so sorry to hear that," he said softly, his voice filled with genuine empathy. "That must have been incredibly difficult for you."
"It was," Johnnie nodded, "Um.. that's also why i don't really like the sounds of sirens. Because i woke up with my siblings holding me down as the-the paramedics are taking my dead dad out on the stretcher-bed-thing."
