In the Valley of the Forgotten, the air hung heavy with a thick, oppressive gloom. The sky above was perpetually shrouded in dark, swirling clouds, casting an eerie twilight over the barren land. Shadows stretched unnaturally long, twisting into strange shapes across the rocky ground as if alive, whispering secrets lost to time.
Zelerious walked with purpose, his long strides crunching over jagged stones and brittle remnants of once-lush vegetation, now withered and turned to ash. Every step he took resonated with the echo of centuries, a haunting reminder of the souls who had once wandered these forsaken lands, only to be forgotten.
The valley itself was a vast chasm, with towering, craggy cliffs on either side, blackened and scarred by ancient, otherworldly forces. Occasional gusts of wind would whip through, carrying faint wails, the cries of forgotten beings who had long since faded from memory. The ground was cracked and barren, littered with broken relics from eras past—abandoned weapons, crumbling statues, and the remnants of forgotten civilizations.
At the heart of the valley, faint rivers of dark energy snaked through the cracks in the ground, glowing faintly with violet light, like veins feeding the valley's sinister life force. These rivers pulsed with dark magic, and as Zelerious passed by, they seemed to react to his presence, shifting and writhing in response.
His eyes, cold and glowing with a dim violet hue, scanned the horizon, his mind focused on the distant memory of Valeria—his queen, the one who had slipped away from him, cursed, and forgotten. His black cloak billowed behind him as he continued forward, unrelenting, undeterred by the desolation around him. His chest ached faintly with each step, the mark of the curse he had placed on her long ago still connected them, tightening its grip as her memories began to stir.
The Valley of the Forgotten was a place of isolation, a place where even time had no meaning, where souls and memories were discarded. But Zelerious—he had not forgotten. And he would not stop until Valeria, now lost in this new life, remembered who she truly was.
His eyes narrowed as he gazed ahead, towards the horizon where the valley met the dark mountains. Somewhere, far beyond, was the key to awakening her memories. He would find it—no matter the cost.
Zelerious halted mid-step, his senses on high alert as a faint, almost imperceptible voice echoed near the blackened bushes lining the path. The dark, twisted foliage trembled ever so slightly, as though something—or someone—was stirring within. His violet eyes glinted as they focused on the movement, sharp and cautious.
The valley, filled with the wails of forgotten souls, rarely offered anything new. But this…this was different. Something alive.
He called out, his voice deep and commanding, filled with the authority of an ancient ruler. "Who goes there?" The words echoed, reverberating off the jagged cliffs, seeming to carry a weight beyond the physical.
For a moment, silence answered him, the wind itself seeming to hold its breath. Then, a soft rustling emerged from the shadows of the bushes, followed by a faint whisper—a voice that seemed both near and far, lost yet present.
The air around Zelerious darkened even more as he stepped closer, his hand instinctively brushing the hilt of the dagger at his side, though he had little need for weapons. His power was more than enough.
"Show yourself," he commanded, his patience thin. The valley was no place for games, and he had little time for distractions.
Suddenly, the blackened bushes parted, and from within the shadows, a small figure emerged—a cloaked being, its face obscured by the darkness of its hood. The figure’s aura was faint, like a dying ember, yet something about it caught Zelerious' attention. The air around the figure crackled with a strange, ancient energy.
The voice spoke again, this time clearer, though still ethereal. "Zelerious... the Dark Lord... even here, your destiny cannot be escaped."
Zelerious' eyes narrowed, his gaze hard as he took another step forward. "Who are you?" His tone was sharp, demanding answers. "What do you know of my destiny?"
The figure’s head tilted ever so slightly, revealing only the hint of a twisted smile beneath the hood. "I am but a shadow of the forgotten... a whisper in the dark," it said cryptically. "But I know what you seek... and what you must reclaim."
Zelerious' heart clenched involuntarily. Could this be the key to Valeria's memories? He clenched his fists, forcing his voice to remain steady. "Speak clearly. What do you know of the queen?"
The figure raised a hand, its bony fingers curling into the air as if weaving a spell. "She remembers... slowly. But there are forces in play far greater than you or I, Zelerious. If you wish to awaken her fully, you must venture beyond this valley—beyond even your own kingdom." The figure paused, the smile widening. "There is something you have long forgotten... an ancient bond."
Zelerious' eyes darkened with realization. The figure spoke of something more—something tied to his past with Valeria, a memory not yet revealed. His voice lowered, dangerously calm. "What must I find?"
The figure’s hand pointed toward the distant mountains, where the horizon was veiled in shadow. "The Oracle of the Eternal Flame. Only she can reveal the truth... and unlock what has been sealed in her heart."
The Oracle. Zelerious had not sought her out for eons. But if that was the path to Valeria’s awakening, he would go—no matter the cost.
With a final glance at the cloaked figure, Zelerious turned on his heel, his mind already set on his next move. "You will not be forgotten," he murmured, more to himself than to the shadowy being.
And with that, the Dark Lord strode onward, toward the distant mountains where the Oracle of the Eternal Flame awaited.
