Kenzie's POV

I walked out of the school building with Clarissa and immediately saw my mom's car. "My mom's already here. I'll see you tomorrow," I said as I waved goodbye to my friend.

"Yeah, bye," she called back to me. I made it to the car and got in.

"So, how was your first day of school?" Mom asked.

"Great, actually."

"See? I told you you'd be fine."

"Did you make any friends?"

"Yes. Which reminds me, someone invited me to a birthday sleep over on Saturday. Can I go?"

"Awwww you've already been invited to a party," Mom squealed. "I told you you'd make friends. Was that who you walked out with?"

"No, that's clarissa. Mikayla invited me. So can I go?"

"Yeah, I don't see a problem with it. Just let me know all of the details."

"Great, she has my number, she's going to text me," I said, happy that I was able to go.

"Spo everything was great today?"

"Yeah," I answered, deciding to not tell her about those small flashbacks. They were just a minor thing, it's no big deal.

We got home and I immediately turned the TV on. "Do you have any homework?" Mom asked.

"Just a little," I answered, not taking my eyes off of the screen.

"Do that first, please."

"But it's not that much I can do it later."

"Kenzie, homework before TV," she said  with a more strict tone. I did what I was told and turned the TV off. I rummaged through my bag and pulled out my homework folder. "Do you need help with anything?" Mom asked.

"No, it's all easy. It's just Math and it's so the teacher can see where we are. I've already looked through it, and it won't take me long."

"Alright. Do you want a snack?"

"Sure," I answered with a smile.

Mom got up and looked through the refrigerator. "How about apple slices and peanut butter?"

"Sounds good." She sliced up and apple and put it on a plate along with a spoonful of peanut butter. "Thanks," I said as she put the plate down next to me. I was already halfway done. "Mom, why did you put me in all advanced classes?"

"Because I thought it would be good for you. You're smart enough. Are you upset that I did that?"

I shook my head. "No, I was just wondering. And did you mean to sign me up for choir?"

"Yup."

"Why? I don't even know if I can sing that well."

"You do, trust me."

"How do you know?" I asked, almost finished with my homework.

"Because I hear you in your room all of the time."

I felt my face turn red. "What? Why didn't you tell me? I would have been quieter."

"No, it's fine. I like hearing you sing. You're really good. Did they get you to sing in choir today?"

"No, we did a get to know everyone activity. It was like that in most classes. We'll have to sing tomorrow, though."

"Will you try? I don't want to make you do something if you don't want to do it. I'll take you out of it if you want, but I want you to at least try it out."

I sighed. "Yeah, I'll try. Clarissa already convinced me to try, anyway." I finished my last math problem. "Done. Can I watch TV now?"

"Sure, just put your homework away." I nodded and put my math back into the folder and put it in my backpack. I returned back to the couch with my snack and turned the TV on to whatever show was playing. I'm not too picky when it comes to TV.
