Kenzie's POV
I didn't talk to Clarissa the rest of the day. She made me so mad, and I guess I made her mad, too. I didn't care. She was calling Connor a jerk just because he liked me instead of her.
At lunch, I wasn't sure where to sit. Mikayla, who hadn't talked to me for a while, invited me to sit with her and her friends. "Seems like you too are having an argument."
"I just saw who she really is, that's all," I responded.
"I know what you're talking about. When she first came in third grade, I tried to be her friend. She was mute, but I still tried to be nice. She would always just push me away," Mikayla explained.
"Really? That's not what she told me."
"Well, you saw for yourself that she's a lier."
"True," I responded.
During gym, I hung around Mikayla instead of Clarissa. Same with choir. We didn't look at each other in our classes, even when we sat right next to each other. I hoped that eventually, we'd forget that we were ever friends so that this tension could go away.
It stayed that way for weeks, until eventually, neither of us reacted to each other anymore. I became really good friends with Mikayla. I don't know why Clarissa said what she said about her, but I guess she lies about everyone. She's probably telling lies about me right now.
Mikayla has a lot of sleep overs, which I'm always invited to. She seems to want to know everything about me, well, and my mom. "We need to have a sleepover at your house so we could meet your mom," she suggested one time.
"Yeah, she just gets busy a lot. I'll have to ask her when her next free weekend is."
The actual truth is I don't want to have a sleepover on her free weekends. That's time for Mom and I to spend together.
I've had less dreams, and less flashbacks. I was right. They'd eventually stop.
I'm happier, at least I think I am. I have great friends, I'm doing well in school, and I just like life better.
Demi's POV
Kenzie seems to much happier these past weeks. I'm so glad that she's feeling better. I think it's because her dreams don't a cute so much anymore.
I invited Nick over this Friday, and Kenzie got excited when she saw him. What she doesn't know is Nick and I have been having date nights while Kenzie is away at all of her sleepovers. I'm sure she wouldn't mind if she found out, but we were still keeping it a secret.
She cuddled with Nick while watching a movie, the way a father and daughter would cuddle together. They were adorable. He loved her so much, I could tell by the way he looks at her. He cares for her like a dad would care for his daughter.
