Kenzie's POV
"I don't ever want you to be afraid to eat," my mom told me in a serious voice. It made me feel guilty. I've had all of these thoughts about eating lately, and now Mom has just begged me not to do that to her. I can't help it, though.
She doesn't understand.
For her sake, I ate my meal without an issue.
After eating, we decided to go see a movie together. It had been a while since we've gone to the theatre, and a movie just came out that has really great reviews. Nick came along with us, since he had nothing else to do today.
We got to the theaters pretty early. Inside the lobby, there was a small photo booth. Like the ones you can do with your friends. I looked at it, then looked up at Nick, using my begging pout. It stopped working on Mom a few years ago, but I can still get Nick to fall for it.
Mom rolled her eyes as Nick took me to the booth.
"Come on, we can get a family portrait in right here."
Mom laughed as she entered the small booth with us. We crammed in. I sat between the two adults. We took the six photos, then I retrieved them from the side of the machine.
I hated the way I looked.
I took a look at Mom and Nick. There was one picture that they were looking right at each other. The looks on their faces were clear. They care so much about each other and have become so close. I studied their expressions towards each other.
They were so cute!
We watched the movie, me still sitting between them, but I noticed they were holding each other's hands. They were trying to keep their relationship a secret from me, but I've known for a while now. They're in love!
After the movie, Nick came back to the house with us. We talked and caught up on life. Their wasn't much new to say, since we see each other so much now.
"I don't know about you two, but I'm getting hungry," Mom said. It was 8 o'clock in the evening, and we had lunch at noon.
"I can order a pizza," Nick offered.
"That sounds good to me. How about you, Kenzie?" Mom asked.
"Sure," I lied with a fake smile. What was I supposed to do?
Demi's POV
The smile on Kenzie's face when we talked about pizza was fake. I could see right through it. I've been watching her for a while now. She's getting less and less interested in eating, and it's starting to worry me. I hoped that what I told her at lunch would help her. I've never told her about what I had gone through a long time ago. The only way she'd know is if she found out from reading or hearing something about it, but not from me.
The pizza arrived, and I eyed Kenzie very carefully. She asked for one piece, which she had eaten slower than usual.
Nick noticed my concern, and placed a had on my leg. I looked at him, and he was already staring at me. "You okay?" He mouthed. I nodded in response.
"I'm really tired, I'm going to bed early. Good night, Mom. Good night, Nick," Kenzie said after she had eaten.
"Good night, Kiddo. Sleep tight," Nick said as she gave him a hug.
"Good night, baby. Love you," I responded with my hug.
She disappeared to her room, and I gave Nick a worried look.
"What's up?" He asked.
"Did you see the way she was eating?" I asked as if it should have been obvious. Nick took a deep breath. "Nick, I'm getting worried about her."
"Demi, she's twelve and is the daughter of a singer who is often in the spotlight. She's going to be more self conscious. That's normal."
"But I don't want it to get too far. That's what I'm worried about."
"And I'm going to help to make sure she doesn't take it too far. I'm here, for both of you."
I looked up at him and smiled. He kissed the tip of my nose. "You know, I think she's on to us," I said.
"How do you know?"
"She gives us that look. That grin of hers. She knows."
He chuckled. "That's alright, I guess."
We watched some TV and snuggled for a couple of hours. My head was leaning on his chest, his arm and me. My eyes started to get heavy, then something abruptly woke me up.
Kenzie's scream.
Nick got up with me and made it to her room before I did. She gently woke her up, but when she opened her eyes to see him, she freaked out. Her eyes got huge, she screamed in pure terror, and scooted off the bed to the opposite side of the room.
I rushed to her side. "Shhh, it's okay," I said softly. "It's okay, it was just Nick."
She cried into me. "I just saw a big man. I thought he was-"
"I know, shhh," I said while rocking her.
"I'm sorry, Nick," she cried.
"It's okay, Kiddo. I understand," Nick said, coming over to us. "I think I should go. It's getting late."
"Do you want Nick to tuck you back in?" I asked.
She nodded and reached for Nick, who effortlessly picked her up. I have her a kids on the forehead before leaving the room. Nick came out shortly after.
"Sorry about that," I told him.
"No need to apologize," he said, putting his jacket on.
"She's been having those dreams more and more lately. That also worried me."
Nick kissed the top of my head. "I know, but she'll be okay. She has an awesome Mom like you to look after her. And if you need help, I'm just a phone call away."
I nodded. "Good night," I said as he exited the house.
"Good night," he responded.
Sorry this chapter is crap, but I really needed to update.
