Demi's POV
"Do you want to go to the mall today?" I asked Kenzie over breakfast.
"For what?" She responded.
"Anything, I guess. It's been a while since we've been together. Just some Mother-Daughter time."
"Sure," she said.
We bother finished our breakfast, then got ready for the day. I was excited. We haven't done this in quite some time, and I'm happy to be spending more time with my daughter.
We got to the mall and entered the big building. There were a lot of people, but I've definitely seen it more crowded before.
We walked around the stores, but not really buying anything. Nothing really popped out to us worth spending money on. It was fun, though, window shopping and talking. I'm sure Kenzie enjoyed it, too.
All of a sudden, Kenzie stopped walking and froze. "What's wrong, Kenzie?" I asked.
I followed her gaze to see what her eyes were set on. Eric, her father, was walking right towards us. He just had about ten more feet to go. Kenzie's grip on my hand got tighter and tighter as he came closer, and she started to shake.
"Hey," her father said with a smile. He looked at me, then Kenzie, who took a step behind me.
"Um, hi?" I responded. "I think this might be getting a little stalker-ish."
"Oh, no," he said with a chuckle. "I was just walking around the mall when I saw you two, and I figured I'd see how you were doing."
"Well, we're fine, thank you." I started to walk away.
"Wait," he said quickly, so I stopped walking and turned back to him. "Why did you stop answering my phone calls? You never respond to any of my messages."
"I just really haven't felt right about this whole reuniting thing with you as Kenzie. I don't think she's comfortable with it, either," I said truthfully. I looked down at Kenzie, who refused to look up at the man who has forever scarred her.
"Listen, I just really miss my daughter. I made bad decisions, and I deserve a second chance," he tried to explain.
"Wait, deserve? You deserve nothing. And you have no right to claim her as your daughter."
"She IS my daughter, and I DO deserve another chance."
"No, you don't. Not after what you've done." I was getting so mad and trying to keep calm while in a public place. We had already attracted some attention. Kenzie's body was shaking with nervousness. "Listen, this really isn't a good place to talk about this."
"Then let's go somewhere else. Anywhere. I just need to talk to you."
"I really don't want to talk about it anymore. And if really appreciate it if you left me and my daughter alone. She doesn't deserve this."
"I can prove that I can be a good Dad," he continued.
"I don't think that's possible after what you've done to this little girl," I told him, squeezing Kenzie's shaking hand. "Now I suggest you leave us alone before the police get involved."
I sped walked with Kenzie out of the mall, ignoring all of the weird glances I got. I need to get her away from that man. No matter what he says, he will never have the right to try to be Kenzie's dad. He's insane if her thinks I'm going to let that happen.
I know it's been a long time since I updated, sorry! I got super busy.
