Demi's POV
"No, I don't think that's a good idea," I answered.
Was he crazy? He thought I'd share custody?! Has he forgotten what he's done?
He looked really disappointed. "I've just missed so much of my daughter growing up, and-"
"No, it's not going to happen."
"I'm her dad-"
"No, you are not. You might be her father, but that is a lot different than her being her dad. You've never been a real dad to her."
"Okay, okay. But just listen. I regret everything I did. I want Kenzie to know how sorry I am."
"It's too late for that. Have you forgotten what you did?" I was getting very irritated. "Have you forgotten what you let those other men do?"
"No, I have not forgotten, I wish I could. I hate myself for that. But I've changed."
"My daughter will forever be scarred because of what happened when she was just five. Do you realize that?"
"Yes-"
"And now you want to just come back into her life? Look, I arranged this meeting so you would have a chance to apologize, but that's it. We agreed that one meeting would be enough," I practically yelled, then hoped no one could actually hear us. I look over at Kenzie. She was staring at me while tightly holding Max's hand. She was scared to death. "I think we should go now."
"Wait, please, just think about it."
"Why?" I asked, annoyed at his ignorance.
"She needs a father figure."
I sarcastically chuckled. "You could never be her father figure." His eyes got darker, and I could tell I was making him angry, but I didn't care. He was being ridiculous. "And she already has a father figure."
"Who? That Jonas boy?"
"He has been her dad since the year I saved her."
"She sees him as her dad? She calls him dad?" He questioned.
"Well, no she doesn't call him dad. But I know that he is definitely more of a dad than you could ever be." I turned and walked away, and I could tell he was following. I got to Kenzie and grabbed her hand. "Come on, Kenzie, let's go." I tried to talk calmly, but I was still mad about the argument I just had with Eric. Max got up and walked with us.
"You better watch what you say!" I could hear him yell at us.
"Mom, he's mad," Kenzie said in a panick.
"I don't respond well to disrespect!" We could hear him as I made sure Kenzie got in the car safely. I decided to sit I the back with her as Max got in the driver's seat.
"Mom," Kenzie whispered. I looked down at her to see the tears start to form in her eyes. "He's mad."
"It's okay," I said softly with an assuring smile.
"He's going to hurt me again."
I shook my head. "No he's not."
"What if he finds where we live?"
"Kenzie, he'll leave. I'm going to change my number. We'll be fine." I pulled her as close as the seatbelt a would allow and kissed the top of her head. "Don't worry."
Will he leave them alone???
