Demi's POV

After Kenzie was in bed, Nick and I talked for a while. We talked about his tour some more, and how the meeting with Kenzie's father went.

"It really freaked her out," I said. "He just started yelling, and she got so scared she still is." I put my forehead in my hands. "I should have never let him see her."

"Hey," Nick said as he wrapped an arm around me. "She's going to be okay. It was a shock for her, but she'll get over it. Just like she did when she was little."

"She shouldn't have to go through getting over it again, though. And she's scared to death that he's coming back."

"Well I'm here now. And just like you, I'll do everything I can to protect her."

"She does trust you a lot. More than most of the people she knows," I said.

"So call me if you ever need my help."

I nodded in response. I don't think I've ever just sat down and talked to Nick like I'm doing now. Just the two of us. He's so sweet and caring. I've never realized how much I enjoy his company.

He looked at the clock on the wall. "Well, it's getting late," he said with a sigh."

"Yeah, I'm getting pretty tired."

"I had fun tonight," he said getting up. "Talking to you," he continued. "And Kenzie, of course."

"Of course," I repeated. "We enjoyed your company. You know she missed you when you aren't here," I said. "I think she sees you as being her dad." He looked at me with his eyebrows raised. "I really think she does."

"Well, I love her like a daughter I guess," he responded.

"I know."

I opened the door for him, and he left. I went up to my bathroom, and got in the shower. I brushed my teeth and put my pajamas on. I crawled into bed, and almost immediately fell asleep.

Somewhere in the middle of the night, I heard a scream. I instantly ran to Kenzie's room. "Mommy!" She screamed as she reached for me. I ran over to my crying daughter and held her tight. "Don't leave me," she cried into me.

"Never," I whispered into her ears. "Never, baby. I'm here." Her arms were wrapped around me tightly, and mine were wrapped around her. She cried into me for a while, and I just held her, stroking her hair and whispering comforting things into her ear. "Let's go to bed, huh?" I asked, and she nodded. I picked her up and carried her to my room, we snuggled together as we both fell back to sleep.

I do have a plan for this book, but I might have filler chapters here and there.
