Demi's POV

I woke up with my arms still around Kenzie. I looked down and noticed that she was already awake. "Hey," I whispered. She have me a weak smile. "Were you able to go back to sleep?"

"Yeah, but I woke up again, and couldn't sleep anymore."

I brushed her hair behind her ears and noticed how tired she looked. "Do you want to talk about what happened?" She shook her head. "Kenzie, you know it will get worse if you don't talk about it."

She sighed before speaking. "Dad got home, and I went to run to my room, but I accidentally hit the lamp with my elbow, and it broke. He got mad and said it was an expensive lamp. He told me I was going to have to pay for it." She paused for a little. "That was the first time I met Mark."

My arms wrapped tighter around her petite body and I kissed the top of her head.

"I know, it was a long time ago, and I don't have to worry anymore," Kenzie said.

"You're right. Are you going to be alright going to the sleepover tonight?" Kenzie nodded. I know when she has dreams like that, it usually takes her a couple of days to be completely fine again. "Come on, let's get some breakfast."

Kenzie and I go down into the kitchen, and I bring out left over pancakes from the morning before. "We still need to get your friend a gift," I said once we had finished breakfast. Kenzie nodded. "Do you want to go ahead and get that taken care of this morning?"

"Sure," Kenzie responded.

We got on our shoes, and got in the car.

Kenzie's POV

Truthfully, I'm terrified to go to the sleep over. What if I need Mom again?

We got to the mall and started looking for a gift. We looked through Forever 21 and picked out a few shirts. We decided to also get Starbucks gift card. "Do you want something to drink?" Mom asked.

"Sure," I responded. "The usual."

We stood in line to get the drinks and gift card. While waiting, I felt a slight nudge. I looked up to see a tall guy. Images from the dream last night flashed through my head, and I gasped and back up into Mom. I grabbed her arm tightly as I tried to calm down. "Oh, excuse me, sorry," the man said.

"Don't worry, she's just a little shy," Mom responded. She then lowered to my level. "Are you okay?" She whispered in my ear. I nodded, still trying to breath correctly. "Do you want to wait outside of the line so there's less people?"

I quickly shook my head and tightened my grip on her arm. "I want to stay with you."

It was our turn to order, and Mom ordered for both of us while also getting the gift card.

We received our drinks and left the mall. We were spotted immediately by the papz. I kept my head low, and tried I remain calm. One hand was gripped tightly to Mom's while my other one held my drink. As they yelled, I heard my dad's yelling in my head. One of them reached out, and I flinched away. Another slightly touched my arm, and I freaked out. "No!" I yelled. Mom quickly picked me up and I buried my head into her. After what felt like forever, we were final to the car. Mom helped me in, then got herself situated. She drove out of the parking lot and out of sight from the papz. She pulled over into a smaller parking lot, and places her hand on my knee. I instinctively flinched. I haven't flinched from her touch in so long.

"Are you okay, baby?" Mom asked in a worried tone. I nodded, trying to steady my breathing once again. "I'm sorry about that."

"I feel so little again. You haven't had to pick me up like that since I was seven," I said, still out of breath.

"It's fine, it's not like you weigh anything." Mom joked. "Are you sure you'll be okay at the sleepover?"

I nodded again. "It will just be a bunch of girls."

With that, Mom started driving again.

Ok I have a general idea of what I want to happen at the party, but it's not going to be enough. Any suggestions? I'll give credit if I use one.
