Demi's POV

The rest of the afternoon was hard. She barely spoke a word, and she didn't eat much for dinner. We cuddled on the couch while watching TV until she fell asleep. I carried her to her room, careful not to wake her. I shouldn't have let her stay up so late. She had school the next day. After I put her to bed, I got myself ready to sleep. Once my head hit the pillow, I was asleep. It only felt like a minute before I was woken up again.

"MOM!"

I ran to Kenzie.

"MOM! HELP!"

"I'm right here," I said softly as I stroked her face, whipping the tears away. For some reason, that was enough to make her jolt awake.

"MOM!" She screamed again as her arms wrapped around my neck. I held her tightly. "Don't leave them."

"With who?"

"With my father. All of his friends. Mommy, don't leave me," she cried.

"I won't, baby." I looked over at her clock. It was three in the morning. "Come on, let's go to bed." We held each other tightly as I carried her to my room. She never let go as I managed to get both of us under the covers. I once again wrapped both of my arms around her and fell asleep.

The next morning, my alarm clock went off. It was so early, and I was so freaking tired. I looked down at my sleeping daughter, then turned my alarm clock off and went back to sleep. At around nine, I felt shaking. "Mom, we're late for school. Like, really late," Kenzie said as she woke me up.

"It's okay," I whispered, still tired. "You don't have to go today."

"Really?"

I nodded. "You had a hard day yesterday. I'll let you have a three day weekend." She laid her head back down as we cuddled into each other again. "We just can't leave the house. The press will be on me about why I have you out of school. So we'll just relax today." Kenzie nodded.

We laid in bed, just enjoying each other's company for another hour before we both started getting hungry. We went downstairs and made pancakes and eggs.

We sat on the couch with each other and watched netflix.

"What about that big test I was supposed to prepare for yesterday?" Kenzie asked.

"He'll let you take it Monday. You won't get a Zero," I responded.

She turned her attention back to the TV. "Should I call Nick? That always cheers you up."

She smiled and nodded.

I picked up my phone, and invited him over.

"He'll be here soon," I said.

Once he got here, Kenzie gave him a hug, but not as enthusiastically as usual. She was still very clingy to me. She was almost acting like she really didn't want him around.

"Excuse us, Nick." I lead Kenzie to her room where Nick wouldn't be able to hear, and closed the door. "What's going on? I thought you wanted him here."

"Well, I did. But once he got here, I got nervous," Kenzie answered.

"About what?" She lowered her head. "Kenzie, you know Nick would never hurt you."

"I know, but Whenever I look at him, he looks just like a man."

"Well, he is a man," I said. Kenzie remained silent. "But he isn't that kind of man. And you know that."

She nodded. "I'm sorry."

"Sweetie, there is nothing to apologize for. I understand. Do you want him to leave?" She shook her head to tell me no. "Ready to go back down there?" She nodded, and I took her hand. I watched as she left me and sat by Nick. He wrapped his arms around her, and the watched TV together. They were so cute.
