Welcome back into the friendzone, Sylus...

I knew it would be complicated if I want to keep my life as a hunter, because technically Sylus is my target. I am currently on a mission to imprison the leader of the N109 Zone. We are still enemies viewed from the outside. We are living in two whole different worlds. We will be at risk to be exposed any time. And if that would happen, I would have to decide which side I am on. But I did not think that day would be today. Fuck my life.

Sylus assesses the situation in just a second, quickly grabbing a hat from the accessories next to him, pulling it on his head to cover most of his white hair and part of his face. His scarlet eyes are hidden behind the sunglasses. I am surprised by the smirk playing at his lips, as he shoves the sunglasses up his nose, standing confident with his arms crossed before his chest.

I turn around, a fake smile on my face. "Xavier, how nice to see you again. What a coincidence. How are you?" Xavier beams a smile at me, his arms spread wide for a greeting embrace as he approaches me, hugging me tight. He seems really happy to see me. In the meanwhile, I feel Sylus's possessive gaze burning holes into my back.

"Weren't you on a special mission to take down Sylus? What are you doing here? I really missed seeing your face around." Xavier does not let me go for a while. "Oh, I took a few days off from work, you know."

As Xavier releases me from his hug, his eyes finally fall upon Sylus standing behind me with crossed arms. "Oh... are you on a date?" Shit. "No No No... No way... We are just..." ...falling in love ...making out. Calling Sylus my boyfriend in front of Xavier would raise too much suspicion on his side. And besides, we never really started going out on an official basis. To be honest, I have no clue what kind of relationship this is and how I should call it. "...best friends."

Suddenly, I feel Sylus's arm around my shoulder, pulling me closer to him and away from Xavier. "Yep, besties for life!" Sylus says with a hint of sarcasm in his voice. Is he mad that I call him a friend? Xavier eyebrows rise in confusion, his eyes curiously watching us, doubting our relationship and I can see the jealously rising in his eyes.

Out of panic, I blabber further to break the awkward silence that spreads between us like a disgusting fart. "I wanted to show him the kitty café, play some matches of kitty cards and eat cake for breakfast." I grin silly, clearly nervous. I recall that Xavier and I were here to play kitty cards while dating.

"Oh... It has been ages since we were playing there... Good old times. Mind if I join your little "bestie" date?" Shit... Is he for real? I can feel that the bestie-act takes a wrong turn as Sylus's arms tighten around my shoulders even more.

"Sure. Why not..." I am surprised by Sylus sudden invitation, his voice is calm and friendly. But I can see his jaw clenching while smiling, his true feelings hidden behind the sunglasses. But he seems confident. Is Sylus not afraid to be uncovered? Maybe I should worry more about Xavier, crosses my mind.

Shortly we sit at the kitty café, each of us has a delicious looking cake in front of us. Sylus and I are playing kitty cards, sitting across from each other. Xavier in the meantime sits pretty close next to me, trying to help me with my strategy. Honestly, I don't know how that could happen.

Sylus jealousy is palpable in the air. He literally destroys Xavier and me in the first three matches. "Seems you run out of luck, Xavier." Sylus says, leaning casual back in his seat, his behavior clearly challenging Xavier.

But Xavier ignores Sylus attempt. "That reminds me of our last time here together. Do you recall? We wanted to go home after playing a whole day, but at that time it rained cats and dogs. We had only one umbrella... It was a really beautiful night... And I still have to think about that kiss you gave me." Xavier reminisces about our last date before our breakup looking at me with nostalgia and longing, about to reach out to touch my face.

Shut Up. Idiot. Do you want to die? "Yeah... I do remember. The kiss was goodbye. It did not work out for us, and we did break up. End of story." I shove his hand away before he can touch me, my attempt to suffocate that topic right here and now.

"Time to switch teams" Sylus says in a dangerously calm voice. I have to swallow, my mouth feels suddenly dry, my tummy clenches. "O-okay."

Xavier and Sylus switch places, but as they cross each other, I notice that Xavier bumps on purpose into Sylus's shoulder. Xavier has always been quick to be jealous. It seems I have a knack for possessive guys. I should question my taste in men. But Sylus remains calm, he even apologies for the accident. He sits next to me as close as possible and lays his arm around me.

For a while, Xavier and I just play kitty cards. I win one match after another. I get the feeling Xavier letting me win on purpose to win my favor. I am not a fan of that though. In the meantime, Sylus picked out his mobile, scrolling and typing, not paying much attention to our game.

Then, Xavier starts to speak with a regretful voice. "You know, I really missed you. And I hate how it ended." I am stunned by Xaviers sudden confession right in front of Sylus. I feel how his body tenses besides me. Xaviers gaze is serious, flickering from me to Sylus and back to me again. "Can we talk... alone?"

At that moment, Xaviers phone starts ringing. "Ah damn. That's work. Sorry, I need to pick up." He stands up and walks out of the café. While I am still struggling with the turn of events, I am surprised to feel Sylus's chuckle besides me. By Xaviers action right now, I would have thought that Sylus is raging inside, ready to murder him. But on his lips plays a sly smirk. He even seems to be amused. What the fuck?

After a short while, Xavier comes back to us, looking annoyed. "Sorry guys. I really need to go now. They got some critical info about Sylus where abouts and I am on duty today, so..." His gaze locks on my eyes, regret is clouding his features. It's pretty obvious that he does not want to go and leave me alone with Sylus. But work was ever his first priority.

"Have fun with your "friend". See you soon." Xavier leans down to give my hair a light kiss, and I am too stunned to react. I am sure he senses the danger radiating from Sylus as he calls him my friend with a mockery tone in his voice, but that did not stop Xavier. "Bye!" He waves and leaves. Leaving me alone with Sylus and the consequences.

"Thank God for that coincidence." I sigh in relieve. I look at Sylus, who grins and waves his mobile. "Coincidence? One word more of that and I would have killed you ex in front of everyone. Can't eliminate so many witnesses. Instead, I hacked your little hunter base spreading some false information. He will be occupied for some time now."

Then, Sylus leans in, his lips brushing against my ear as he whispers, his voice low and dangerous. "I might have to punish you for calling me your bestie. Do not EVER call me that again, Kitty." Help.
