46. Never stop Singing

We are back in the lab room. Sylus and Kitty sit on the floor, they are older now than before. Kitty holds a small guitar, trying to get some decent tones out of it, but it's sounds off. "Wait, maybe if you place your fingers like this."

Sylus gently lays his fingers on her small hand, showing her where exactly her fingertips should press the strings down. She bites her lip in concentration, her eyes focused on her hand holding the neck of the guitar. She does not notice the red blush crossing his face and his bright red ears, as they sit so close together that he can smell her shampoo. He is highly aware of their knees touching, and her fingers under his hand.

Then, she tries to strum the strings again and the chord sounds so much better than before. A smile crosses her face. "See, I knew you can do it." Sylus says proudly, grinning. She radiates, her smile pure bliss at his praise. "Let's sing together." She suddenly suggests. Sylus eyebrows raise surprised. "Singing? I don't know... My voice is not that good."

"What do you mean? You voice is beautiful even while speaking. I bet it sounds incredible. Come on. Don't be shy. Let's try!" She is determined to hear her friend sing. Sylus sighs in defeat. "Ok, ok. But just this once." He could never refuse a request from her in the last years. 

These past years they grow pretty close. But Kitty never felt the same way as Sylus. He has fallen for her since the first day they met, and it got even worse as they spent more and more time together. But in her eyes, he was just her best friend over all these years.

Since starting the treatment for Kitty, they had to endure the experiments each week. The humans tried to control his powers, testing his abilities which grew as he got older, taking his blood for further experiments. Kitty had to continue her treatment regarding her heart disease. Each time was hurtful and the only support they had was their friendship.

He knew that their friendship meant everything to her, and he was not willing to risk their relationship because of his one-sided feelings. So, he played along. But sometimes it really got on his nerves how clueless she could be. And his heartbreak hurt more than the things the humans do to him in the experiments.

"Here. I play and you sing. One, two, three..." Kitty suddenly interrupts his thoughts by urging him to sing a song. The only vocals that come into his mind are from a silly song from an advertisement they watched together some time ago.

He starts singing, his voice sounds deep but kind of monotone. Nonetheless, her face as she hears his voice is pure bliss. She looks extremely happy and laughs from her heart, her eyes sparkling. Sylus loves the sight of her and keeps singing, feeling proud to make her smile with just his voice. Her happiness is the only thing that matters to him.

After a while, he is breathless. Kitty gives a round of energetic applause and cheers. She puts the guitar next to her and jumps right into his arms. With her action she catches him off guard and he has to wrap his arms around her to keep her from crashing to the ground. They both fall backwards. Sylus falls onto his back, holding her close, so she lies on top of him. 

"Oops..." She giggles. "That was awesome, Sylus. You looked like a rockstar." He can feel her heartbeat on his chest through the fabric, racing like the wings of a little bird. Her face is just inches apart from his own. As he stares in her eyes, which are bright with joy, his face turns bright red. He must stop himself from kissing her right here, right now. She would not understand. She would refuse him.

Suddenly, Sylus shoves her away, down from his body. "Stop that, Kitty." He frowns angry, standing up and ruffling his hair in frustration. His heart is beating like crazy. She looks confused, not getting the danger of the situation. Clueless little Kitten.

"Sorry, I did not mean to scold you." His face softens as he sees her troubled reaction. Instantly, her face lightens up. "Sorry, I could not hold back. I think your voice is awesome. Please never stop singing. Ever."

And he never did.
