Kitty's Perspective
I snap out of my daze and turn to face Tara. "Y-yes. Let's go." I start to realize that it will be hard to keep my hands off Sylus the whole night. But I must pretend that he is nothing more to me than a mere colleague.
In his angelic disguise, his aura is even more powerful and dangerous. Reminded of his form back in the laboratory, I realize that I have never asked what actually happened to his horns. When I think about it some more, I know nearly nothing about Sylus's past before we met in the laboratories. What kind of creature is he? We have so much to discuss about what happened back then. But it seems we do not get the chance to talk in private so soon. I make a mental note to ask Sylus about every detail of his past when I get the opportunity.
We follow Tara, who leads us to the garage of the hunter base. As we approach the car, Tara opens the passenger side door and turns to Sylus and me. "You guys can sit in the back." She says with a hint of a smile. Sylus motions for me to go in first. I am climbing into the backseat without much trouble.
Then, Sylus gets in the car as well. His wings and horns make maneuvering into the car a bit tricky for him. He must angle himself carefully and duck his heads to avoid clipping his wings or horns against the roof of the car. Me and Tara have trouble muffling our giggles by the sight of his struggle. As Sylus finally sits in the backseat close next to me, we all are relieved that Sylus managed to get in without ruining his costume.
Tara turns the key in the ignition, the car's engine roaring to life with a low rumble. Then she pulls out of the garage and steers the car onto the road. The Halloween party is going to take place in the headquarters of the hunter's association. It's a huge building in the middle of Linkon City. It will be a short ride to get there.
I can feel Tara's gaze at us through the rearview mirror of the car, her eyes switching between me and Sylus from time to time as she focuses on the traffic in front of her. When our eyes meet, she winks at me and begins to hum happily while a satisfied smile plays across her lips.
As we drive, my palms rest on the smooth leather of the backseats and I can feel the vibration of the vehicle beneath me. The feathers of Sylus's costume brush against the bare skin on my back and my body trembles involuntarily. My hand on his side slides over the leather closer to his leg until the tip of my little finger accidentally touches his thigh.
I can feel his intense gaze upon me even if his eyes are concealed by the mask. I avoid looking at him, instead my gaze is directed at the blur of lights and shadows outside the window as the car drives through the streets of Linkon City. In the meantime, the sun has set, and the night sky sparkles with millions and billions of stars.
Suddenly, I feel his knee touching mine, an innocent touch for any outsider, but my heart rate increases, nonetheless. He gently adds pressure through his knee against mine, an invisible, subtle movement. Beginning at my knee an intense prickle is running on my skin over my whole body, and I can't suppress a slight shiver. I am highly aware of the spot where his warmth is rubbing against me.
His intoxicating scent is filling the air inside the car, and I have trouble breathing normally. The sensual tension between us in the atmosphere is palpable and I don't know how I will survive a night without touching him. I want to touch him, feel him, taste him, so much that my body is really tense from fighting the urge for proximity. I slide my little finger discreetly just an inch underneath his leg to satisfy my need to touch him anyway.
Suddenly, he leans his shoulder against mine while he looks out of the window by my side. "The sky is beautiful tonight." Sylus mumbles silently but he is not looking at the night sky though, instead his hot gaze meets mine. He is so close to my face that I can easily see the burning red of his eyes through the holes of his mask, as his warm breath tickles the skin on my cheeks. I don't dare to breathe until he slowly pulls away, his thigh now firmly pressed against my leg.
