She started struggling to get out of his grip again and they forth with her until he tripped her so she fell on the bed. He pinned her hands above her head. "Samantha this is ridiculous." She turned her head away from him and he bent his head so his face was right in front of hers. "Listen to me. Yes we did get married in a small ceremony with just friends and family. It wasn't in a church. You don't have much friends and your best friend died a little before you had the twins. I don't know why I have to tell you all this. Why are you having doubts about us. I've always loved you since and before we got married. I've never looked at another woman, I love you."
The sincerity in his voice tugged at her heart, but she couldn't let him fool her again, a paternity test is never wrong. "Then why did Saint's paternity test show that he is the biological child of someone else?"
She watched his expression shifted from tenderness, to confusion and then disbelief. "You did a paternity test on our son without me knowing?!" Shaun exclaimed, his voice raising as he grappled with her words.
"I had to. This guy said he knew me, that I was his fiance and that Saint is his."
"And you like a fool believed him. So any stranger can just walk off the street and tell you anything and you'd fall for it?" Shaun said between clenched teeth.
"What was I suppose to do?" Samantha's voice trembled slightly. "Saint looks like him, same birthmark everything and don't forget the paternity. Shaun tell me the truth. What's going on?" She demanded, her heart pounding.
The air grew heavy with the tension between them as he stared at her a long while, his hands tightening painfullly around hers. "Tell you what Samantha? There's nothing to tell. Do you think I'm lying?"
He had never done anything for her to doubt his affection for her. "So how do you explain the paternity? What if I ask you to do one." She felt the trust that they once shared was teethering on the edge of a precipice.
The silence that followed was deafening, his gaze searching hers. Then he suddenly said in an incredulous tone. "You want me to do a paternity test?" He laughed, but it was hollow and without any humor. "This is insane. You trust a stranger more than your husband." His incredulous laugh echoed in the room again, a gut wrenching sound that made her heart ache. "Fine, I'll do it, if it would bring you peace and resolve this mess." Shaun's voice shifted to determination, but the hurt is his eyes was unmistakable as he continued. "We'll do it on Shevon, since Saint already was stuck. Don't want to uneccessrily traumatize him more than we did. After it's done I don't want you communicating with this guy." His lips thinned out and there was a hard look in Shaun's eyes. "Samantha I mean it! All of this is probably because he is infactuated with you. It's probably not even about Saint."
"Shaun he never said anything inappropriately. "
"That doesn't say anything. He's probably heads over heels in love with you and probably tampered with the test. I'm sure you did the test at his doctor?"
"Well we did but Shaun...."
"I'm not doing it there. I'll get it done at work. What's this guy's name by the way?" Shaun released her hands, sliding his fingers through her hair.
"Noah."
A strange expression flitted quickly across his face. "Noah." He repeated what she said and his face now took on a satified expression. "Any further dealings with him is with me."
She nodded.
He dipped his head to kiss her but she turned her head. "Shaun, I-I need to get passed this."
"Samantha that's not fair. You're letting him get in between us.
"I just can't until this is over."
