With his hands still raised in a placating gesture, Noah took a cautious step forward, trying to reassure her.
"I'm not going to hurt anyone Samantha. I just took bloods from the kids and from Shaun. I have a paternity kit, and I'm going to test the blood. That's why he's out. I had to make sure he wouldn't stop me from doing so." He pulled out the vials and something else that was probably the kit.
"This isn't right Noah. We already did paternity on the both kids." Samantha exclaimed her voice trembling. She was still frozen on the same spot when she came in, and her breath caught in her throat when Noah turned and placed drops of blood from the vials onto the kit. "Samantha come and sit on the bed."
Her legs was trembling so bad. She shook her head in a no, looking again at the paternity kit with horror and disbelief.
"I'm not going to hurt you."
"You had no right to do this." Her hands clenched into fist by her side at the casual way he was handling the situation.
"I had to do this Samantha. Something is not right and I'm going to get to the bottom of it. The previous test could never be wrong." He glanced at the kit again. "Five more minutes for the reading. They say that these personal kits are quite accurate, just as good as the labs. .... "I think five minutes is up." He scanned the results his expression unreadable as he processed the information, for what felt like an eternity to her. A look of disbelief came over his face. and she just stood watching him, afraid even more about what the results would say.
"The test was positive, I'm Saint's father, but......" He got lost standing there staring at the results.
"But what?" She pressed, her voice trembling with anxiety.
Finally, Noah looked up from the kit. "Shevon is Shaun's. It confirmed their biological connection."
"That can't be right." Samantha whispered, shaking her head.
The silence that followed was deafening as he turned and stared at the sleeping Shaun and approached the bed.
"Noah." She said nervously, watching as he stood over Shaun, who was sleeping peacefully. His expression a mixture of confusion and determination.
Samantha watched him tug open Shaun's shirt, pulling it wider on the left, and then she heard the sharp inhale of his breath. "It couldn't be, but it explains it all." His shocked voice echoed around the room. 'Liam?"
"What?" She said stupidly, stepping forward, straining to see what Noah was looking at. Samantha didn't see anything other than the birthmark near Shaun's left shoulder.
"It's Liam. He had a birthmark there, I didn't." His finger shook slightly as he pointed to the distinctive birthmark.
She looked from Noah to Shaun, then Noah again, her heart sinking in the pit of her stomach. Noah had told her about his brother Liam, but what he was saying now, she was finding hard to understand and believe. "What are you really saying?" Was the room spinning?
"Shaun seems to be, my brother Liam, with some changes to his face."
The sound of her fainting echoed around the room and Noah rushed to her side.
