"Why are you here? Are you stalking me?" I said looking at Ryan from down the hall.
"Don't get too beyond yourself." He said with a smirk walking down to my door. He stood there and raised an eyebrow looking down at me, he was much taller than I was just as everyone was.
"Can I help you smart ass? If not stop staring at me and get out my doorway."
"Well I came here to visit someone and noticed your name on a mainbox downstairs. Just wanted to see if it was the real you."
"Well surprise, it is. Leaving now?"
"No." He said staring at me and pushing me out the way of the doorway, just walking in my house. I didn't know him and he just was too comfortable for me, plus I didn't feel like dealing with anymore bullshit. "I seen your ex storm out downstairs."
"Yeah what else is new, everyone in this building is used to us arguing atleast a couple days out the week if that. So yeah, welcome to my world." I said shutting the door and going to the fridge. He was just standing there so I guess there was no harm in that, but he wasn't staying too long. "So what's your deal, when you gonna leave?"
"Oh yeah you two are everywhere. Magazines, news channels, social media. Glad I'm low key." He said looking around my loft. "I guess I wanted to say thanks for getting me to the theater earlier. Came to give you something in return." He said reaching in his pocket.
"I don't need anything, just consider it a favor." I said walking over to the couch with a bowl of strawberries turning on the TV. I didn't like taking any gifts from anyone, especially people I didn't know.
"It's a coffee card, I figured you'd like it since you like to pour coffee on people."
"Well, I don't like coffee so I guess you're out of luck." I said changing the channel and he plopped down next to me.
"I'm sorry for earlier, I'm usually not this much of an ass but I've been so annoyed lately."
"Sure you have."
"Why are you so mean? I feel like you wanna rip my head off right from here."
"Oh I do, and you probably are an ass. It seems like it's just part of your personality."
"Well it's not. Like, your hair doesn't look as frizzy as it did earlier. You have a beautiful face, and I hope one day you live for yourself and let go of that Josh guy that doesn't want you." I looked over at him slightly in a shock, I didn't expect him to say something like that. "Yeah, I do have common sense Liyah and hopefully one day you will too."
"What do you mean by that?"
"You'll realize that some people just don't work out, even if they do share a child or have so much history. Sometimes they aren't your soulmate, learn that before you learn the hard way, trust me." He said smiling and pulling one of the strands of my hair that was in my face. He was making a lot of sense but I just never seen it that way I guess, well I did but then Josh came back in my life and just has my emotions everywhere.
"Wow it's amazing how much sense you just made." I said laughing and eating my strawberries. "Did you learn the hard way?"
"I did, I was with this girl for a long time, thought she was the love of my life. Then after five years, she gets pregnant."
"What's so bad about that?"
"Wasn't mine." He said scratching the back of his neck and looking the other way. "Turns out she cheated on me a good chunk of our relationship with a couple people. Made me look like a fool, and was ready to pin a baby on me cause she knew I was going to be exactly where I am today. We tried talking about it all and working it out for a little but I couldn't do it anymore, there was too much damage. I found myself waiting for someone who was taking forever to want me or take me seriously."
"I understand. Sounds like Josh's ex, and my situation too. I didn't think I'd have much in common with you of all people."
"Neither did I with you, you came off crazy too, you gotta admit it." We laughed and I actually was keeping everything he said to the front of my mind. Didn't mean that it was what I was going to do, my emotions have been everywhere since Josh came back around. I'm not going to just deny them because of all he's saying. Me and Josh had our issues but at the sametime, I don't know. We just had this connection with eachother, but I do need to let go as well. I'm just confused over all, I hate dealing with this kind of stuff.
"Yeah, yeah. I'm not apologizing cause that's me on a 24/7 basis." I said laughing and looking over at him. "But I'm sorry you had to go through that. I know it sucks, you'll find love again. Someone to appreciate you and accept what you have to offer as a person."
"Why don't you ever listen to your own advice?" He said staring at me, and we looked at eachother for a good while until his phone started to ring. He looked at it and rolled his eyes. "Work."
As soon as he answered the phone, someone was knocking on my door. Honestly who else could be coming to see me, I barely bother with anyone. "Who is it?"
"Josh. My phone died and I need to use yours to call my ride. I got a game and I'm late to practice we're supposed to be there early." I looked over at Ryan and tried to get him to shut up and go hide in another room. I didn't want Josh's blood to start boiling soon as he walked in.
"Go hide! Go in the bathroom!"
"Why?! You can't have friends now?"
"No, I'm trying to protect you cause he will knock you out and not care. Just go!" I said as he sighed and got up to go to the bathroom. I opened the door and he came in and sat on the couch, grabbig my cell phone and making the call he needed to make. I could still hear Ryan on the phone and then a couple seconds after the toilet flushed. I walked away from where Josh was and went to the kitchen, I know once he came out it was gonna be a problem.
"Lily's up that fast?" Josh said looking over at me but his question was answered when Ryan came out. "What are you doing here?"
"I just had to use the bathroom. My friend I came to visit a few floors down is having maintenance done so I seen Liyah's name down on a mailbox and thought why not?" He said walking over to the door and throwing his hand up to me. Josh studied him from the time he walked out the bathroom all the way to the door. "Interesting conversation by the way, see you another time."
"Bye." I smiled and went to lock the door, and thankfully whoever Josh called was on the phone with him now so I didn't have to deal with whatever he was about to say. I sat next to him and waited for him to hang up, and thought about what Ryan was saying because it was in the front of my mind, couldn't help but think it's possible he could be right.
"They're coming, they said in about 20 minutes. I can't miss this game, this is one of the finals and hopefully we make it to the Superbowl."
"That's good, I hope you do too." He leaned over on me and closed his eyes. "What are you doing Josh?"
"Just give me a few minutes, let me sleep for these last 20 minutes." He said stretching out and putting his arms around me, his head on my tummy. After a couple minutes he was sound asleep, I wasn't gonna move since it was only a few minutes. These are moments that makes it hard for me to just let go because I love Josh so much, but sometimes I think I should because like Ryan said, sometimes there's just too much damage.
