"HAPPY new year!" Echoed his friends, celebrating the brand new century, now in the 2000s.

Lee Heeseung stood still, a vague smile spread across his lips as he lit two sparklers, holding them in his hands as he watched the fireworks set off in the far distance.

It had been closer to a year since he had lost his best friend, his soulmate, rather. Losing her to the cruel reality, the harsh world they lived in.

A scar was still left over his heart, in the shape of her—feeling unfixable. And although he struggled thinking about her, he was doing better than he was before, courtesy of his friends who helped him through his grief.

He had finally come to terms that he couldn't go back and change the past, no matter how much he wished and prayed to the gods above to bring her back to him.

He finally accepted it, and began the process of living his life in hopes to find happiness again.

It was and always will be different without her by his side; Heeseung knew this. But he wanted to try.

Sure, some days were harder than others. And he missed her daily, unable to fully recover. But the least he could do would be to start cherishing what he had with her, rather than be angry and only hurt himself further.

To cover himself in shame and guilt, to blame himself for what he couldn't handle.

He couldn't live like that.

That night, he returned to his childhood home. His bedroom was empty, nothing but boxes spread across the wooden floors.

Lee Heeseung was leaving for college to study abroad in a month or two, taking the initiative to go with one of his best friends — Park Jongseong. Change was good, and was what he needed.

Although, a small weight lingered over his heart at the thought of no longer residing at his childhood home and leaving behind so many memories, he knew he could always visit for as long as his parents remained here.

And whilst he may not be in the old familiar room, walls painted a navy blue, the memories made would forever be etched into every corner of his mind—always there for him when he closed his eyes to reminisce on the good days.
