AN/ It doesn't feel right to put Kath, Keith, and Layle in the same chapter. But I don't want to drag the story longer than that, so.. here you go..
With a cigarette in my his mouth, Keith roamed inside John's house, turned the gas on in the kitchen, and went to the garden to find a gallon of gasoline, that he proceeded to pour everywhere, and then a moment before he left, he threw his cigarette on the gasoline causing it to catch fire.
He wanted to burn the house down.
He promised to search for Kath's photo, but he feared to actually find it, he didn't want to see the photo himself, he has enough materials for his nightmares, there was no need to add his sister's to it.
The street was empty, and he ran to the kids park were Kath was waiting.
"The photo is now burned."
He said. There was no fear in him saying these words, after causing an arson, Kath realized her brother changed, and doesn't care about getting in trouble anymore.
They sat on the swings watching the smoke rises, waiting for the neighbors to gather around.
"I enrolled in a community college, in B city."
She said, her eyes never moved from the fire.
"Mostly betas live there, you know that, it's quite peaceful, I like it there."
"I'm glad you do."
"What about you?" She asked.
"I'm good." He replied, he didn't want to burden her with his problems.
"Are you here to stay?"
"No." She sighed. She was asked that question too many times, since she came back.
"I'm leaving tonight, I have my own life there, and I'm not ready yet to face Matt."
Keith nodded, disappointed. He felt sorry for Matt.
If only they knew the lengths Matt reached for them, they would probably change their minds about him, but for now, they preferred to stay away from that alpha.
"Kathy.. I'm sorry, I'm sorry for everything. I didn't know, and it's not an excuse, but-"
"Keith, stop." She cut him. She put that subject way long behind her. She didn't want to open closed wounds.
"It's all in the past. Right now I have a new life and I don't won't to ruin it by mentioning the past."
He tilted his head, not uttering another word, grieving their lost years.
"I never felt like a twin, are we actually a twin?" She asked turning her eyes to him for the first time.
"I hid many things from you and it's my fault, you don't need to feel guilty, in return you hid things from me too. We were taking care of ourselves not each other. So how about we agree that from now on we start a new page, where we don't blame ourselves, or try to tear each other apart?"
It took Keith a long time to think and decide, and by the time a fire truck arrived to put down the fire, he reached an agreement.
From now on, they let go of the past, so they can live their presence. They agree to live a separate, healthy life, they don't need to stick together, even when they are a twin. That they will wait until they are ready to reconnect.
"You and Layle work as twin better than you and me." She teased, a warm smile appeared on her lips, making his heart ache.
"But you alone is also good. You don't need anyone to complete you, that's what I came to terms with. We can be complete by ourselves."
