Keith couldn't believe he finally reached his room and fell on his bed after a long tiring day filled with pain and pheromones.
But as soon as his head hit the pillow he got a call from Joey that made him spring to the hospital, the taxi dropped him few blocks away as the roads were cut, so by the time he reached the hospital he was out of breath from running.
The crowd of people covered the entrance and the press were around ready with their gear. The sound of sirens coming from ambulances and police cars made the whole scene so surreal as if it was taken right out of a horror movie.
"The alpha killer hits once again killing his third target, a student at Central university, who was hospitalized in this hospital earlier this day, the information about the suspects is still unavailable but the police had arrested several nurses, doctors, and medical students, who worked as volunteers."
The reporter next to him said those words in front of that camera then stopped to check if the video was good enough.
"Joey." Keith yelled when he noticed his friend standing next to a reporter, who wanted to do an interview with him.
"What's going on?!" He asked as Joey approached him.
"Leo is arrested! He and several med students who volunteered to help people who fell in the stadium."
"Why?"
Joey dragged him away from the fuss and repeated the same words he told Keith over the phone, the same words he overheard from the reporter.
"Someone got killed in the hospital. Same method, same motto as the previous killings, they are suspecting the guys who interacted with the victim at the hospital."
"Who died?"
"You don't know him."
"Who?!" Keith insisted, he had a feeling he knows the victim, he had a feelings the killings are somehow connected to him and the dead is an alpha who deserved to die.
"An alpha called Billy Kim. He's one of the guys who attacked you at the stadium and later was affected by Layle's pheromones and got hospitalized... he's one of Jason's friends."
"What.." Keith tried to mouth but his smile prevented him, he covered his mouth and turned away from his friend but Joey could tell the beta was happy. And was made sure when Keith couldn't contain his laughter anymore and burst out laughing next to all those shocked and saddened people.
Keith who is against violence, against taking an innocent or even criminal's life, was happy and relieved, he is not a suspect anymore. He didn't even feel the shame nor the guilt of feeling happy over the misery that visited that alpha's family.
"I have an alibi, I'm finally free." He told Joey. "And a scum bag has died. Two birds one stone."
"Yeah, but.. Leo.. they will take Leo."
Keith's ears didn't filter the words correctly, what do you mean Leo? Why do you care about Leo when it's about me? Be happy with me! He thought about telling Joey but his eyes fell on detective Lania Lee from the crowd.
In a second without even thinking, he pushed Joey aside running her direction and pushing everyone from the way, till he reached the tape that kept everyone away from the cars she was near.
She noticed him and they exchanged glances, he felt a sudden hatred directed towards that woman, she's yet again on a crime scene of a case she can't solve.
Police cars were ready to leave and from the corner of his eye he spotted Leo sitting in one of them, cuffed to the grab handle. Now he understood what Joey tried to explain about Leo.
