No One's POV:

El and Max were working on a homework assignment together for their woodshop class. They had to build birdhouses. At first, El struggled a bit with the wood works, but after Max helped her for quite some time, she was starting to get the hang of it.

Right now, they were at Max's house since she knew that her parents wouldn't be home for a while, so they had all that time to themselves.

They had all their supplies with them, and everything was going pretty smoothly. At one point, El picked up a piece of wood, and suddenly, she winced and dropped the piece of wood onto the table.

El: "OW! DAMN IT!"

Max immediately stopped working to see what was going on. She looked up and saw El holding her finger in pain, and she quickly put two and two together. She got up and walked over to El.

Max: "El, are you okay?"

El: "No, it hurts. It hurts too much!"

Max holds El's finger and looks at it to see how bad it is. She can see a tiny splinter barely sticking out.

Max: "Oh, you just got a splinter."

El was confused by that word, considering she didn't know what it meant.

El: "Splinter?"

Max realizes that El doesn't know what a splinter is, so she explains it to her.

Max: "Yeah, so basically, whenever you handle wood, and a piece of it sticks into your skin, that's when it becomes a splinter."

El: "Oh..."

Max sees a tear rolling down El's face. She gives her a hug to help her feel a little better, and El melts into the hug a bit. They pull away after a few seconds.

Max: "Hang on, I'll be right back."

Max walked over to the bathroom and grabbed a pair of tweezers and a small needle, as well as a band-aid for afterwards. She walked out of the bathroom and back to the table they were working at. El looks up and sees everything Max was holding.

El: "Uhh, Max... what are you gonna do with all that?"

Max: "It's the only way I can get that splinter out. It won't be so bad, just as long you keep still."

El: "Oh... well, please be careful, okay?"

Max: "I will, El. I promise."

Max sat back down next to El, who held out her injured finger for Max to "work" on. Max gently held onto it while starting to use the needle to try to pry away the skin around it. El was trying her best not to move, despite the feeling being worse than the splinter. Max saw her pain.

Max: *softly* "I know it hurts, baby. Just keep holding still, you're doing great."

El smiles at her pet name as Max continues working on getting the splinter out.

Max: "I know what'll help."

El: "What?"

Max: "I could take your mind off of this with something even better."

El: "I'm listening."

Max: *giggles* "Alright, close your eyes."

El does what Max tells her.

Max: *softly* "Now, picture this: you and I are on a beach. The sun is slowly setting in the distance as we're taking a nice walk along the shoreline. The feeling of the soft sand in our toes and the water rushing to our ankles sets the tone perfectly. After some time, we stop and turn to look at the sunset. As it slowly disappears and the sky slowly turns dark, you and I share a special kiss."

El's smile gets bigger and bigger at the mental image of a perfect sunset, and just like that...

Max: "And we're done."

El opens her eyes and sees that Max had gotten the splinter out of her finger.

El: "Wow, that was fast."

Max: "Yep, and look at it."

El gets closer and narrows her eyes at the size of the splinter.

El: *giggles* "It's so tiny."

Max laughs with El. After a few seconds, Max disposes of the splinter. She opens the band-aid and gently places it around El's finger, where the splinter removal only resulted in a tiny drop of blood. Once Max was done, she gave El's finger a kiss. El blushes.

El: "Aww, Maxy..."

Max smiles at the nickname. She reaches across the table and kisses El again, but on the lips this time. El instantly melts into the kiss, and at that point, they completely forget what they were originally doing.
