Jiang Ruan lay still until her body was almost numb. Finally, there was some movement outside the door, accompanied by a chorus of footsteps and crude conversations about the bridal chamber. However, the noise didn't last long as Mother Lin scolded them, and the ruckus faded like retreating waves.
The room fell silent, amplifying even the slightest creak of the door. Jiang Ruan knew it was her so-called husband entering, so she adjusted her head and pretended to be asleep.
A light scent of alcohol wafted to her nose as the person approached cautiously, taking small, careful steps. Finally, she sensed him standing beside her, delightedly and tentatively calling, "Wife?"
His voice was youthful, almost indistinguishable between male and female, like a young teenager. Jiang Ruan remembered that people in ancient times married young.
Though uncertain if this era existed in history, she deduced that this person might just be a child, unlikely to know how to consummate a marriage.
While she was calculating her advantage in having a young husband, she heard the rustling sound of clothes hitting the floor.
Growing more alert, Jiang Yuan planned to negotiate the bridal chamber issue once he helped her remove the bridal veil. But, unexpectedly, he climbed onto the bed, pressing his body against hers.
The weight wasn't much, but it was uncomfortable. Jiang Ruan struggled a bit, and her movements seemed to displease him. He pouted and protested, "Wife, don't move. Kong'er... Kong'er hasn't finished the bridal chamber yet."
Jiang Yuan: "..."
She couldn't help but wonder if he was mentally challenged. Her veil wasn't lifted, her ankles and wrists were bound, and her mouth was gagged. She had no idea when he started this so-called bridal chamber.
Unless he didn't know how to consummate the marriage at all.
With this thought, Jiang Ruan felt relieved. She continued to struggle, hoping he would untie her. As for consummating the marriage, if her husband was a fool, there was nothing to worry about.
Noticing her constant movement and the veil still covering her face, he suddenly realized, "Mother said to lift the veil first, then sleep with A'Yuan... no... now it's wife."
Listening to his clumsy words, Jiang Yuan felt more certain of her assumption and waited as he slowly lifted the veil.
When the red veil was finally removed, Jiang Yuan saw the face of the person half-leaning over her.
If not for his ordinary attire hiding his noble aura, the person before her could easily pass for a young nobleman. He appeared to be around fifteen or sixteen, about the same height as the original owner, with a neatly tied topknot, revealing a smooth face. His skin was fair, with a hint of baby fat, far removed from the rough men Jiang Ruan had seen earlier.
His features were delicate, almost feminine, like a figure stepped out of a painting.
Yet He looked somewhat foolish.
Moreover, he bore no resemblance to Lin's parents. The young man before her was evidently more refined, resembling a pampered young master rather than a farmer's son.
