Jiang Yuan moved her hand gently, barely slipping into Lin Kong’s inner garment. In this situation, it was unlikely Lin Kong would wake up.
As she reached inside, she felt a bandage-like cloth. Although she trusted her judgment, this matter concerning her safety required caution, necessitating personal verification.
The protrusion under her fingers was small, resembling a newly sprouted bud or a shrunken little bun from a careless vendor.
It seemed Lin Kong’s chest hadn’t developed much. Without the binding, it wouldn’t be noticeable, and with it, the bandage only made things more conspicuous.
She recalled that on their wedding day, Lin Kong wore a chest wrap, but the bandage peeked out from the inner garment, ironically drawing more attention.
Since she suspected on the first day that Lin Kong was cross-dressing, the original host must have known Lin Kong was female. This made the original host’s escape more puzzling.
It was unlikely, as she initially guessed, that the original host fled because she married a foolish husband who turned out to be female.
Now, two questions lingered.
If the original host knew Lin Kong was female, why wait until the wedding night to flee? Moreover, the original host stayed out of gratitude, and with the opportunity to repay it while preserving her dignity, fleeing seemed unnecessary.
Unable to figure it out, Jiang Yuan stopped pondering.
The quickest solution would be to regain her memories. However, she didn’t know if someone who had died once could recover them, and whether, after recovering those memories, she would still be herself or someone burdened with another’s past.
Jiang Yuan didn’t want the original host’s memories or to act on them. Although her rebirth was closely linked to the original host, she just wanted to be herself.
In some ways, she was selfish and ruthless.
As warmth crept into her fingertips, Jiang Yuan realized she had overthought things. She shook her head in frustration, noticing her hand lingered on Lin Kong’s chest too long, an ambiguous position that seemed improper.
Slowly retracting her hand, she expected a smooth withdrawal, but suddenly her wrist was gripped tightly, the force strong enough to potentially break her hand with a bit more pressure.
Frowning, Jiang Yuan stared at Lin Kong’s face, doubting her judgment. Was Lin Kong merely pretending to be foolish? That level of acting would be impressive.
But after waiting without Lin Kong opening her eyes, the action seemed reflexive. Whatever past experiences caused such vigilance were unknown.
Jiang Yuan chuckled; Lin Kong guarded her chest well but was otherwise foolish. Shouldn't she have caught Jiang Yuan's hand immediately?
After all, one is foolish when asleep.
However, Lin Kong’s vigilance was commendable. Jiang Yuan considered the possibility of Lin Kong serving as a bodyguard on her journey, but she needed to assess Lin Kong’s martial capabilities first.
