After Song Keyan asked her question, she felt all her courage drain away, leaving her standing awkwardly. Although she dared not look directly at Jiang Yuan, her pride prevented her from averting her gaze like other women might in front of someone they admired. With a trace of hope in her eyes, she met Jiang Yuan’s gaze head-on.
Jiang Yuan was caught off guard by Song Keyan’s question, momentarily stunned as she locked eyes with her. From her limited understanding, Song Keyan was straightforward and honest, speaking her mind without reservation. Although sometimes irritating, she was generally a sincere person.
The unexpected nature of the question, one Jiang Yuan had never considered, left her feeling both bewildered and confused.
Noticing Jiang Yuan's prolonged silence, Song Keyan's eyes brightened with hope, suppressing her anxiety. She asked again, "Jiang Yuan, do you like Lin Kong?"
Song Keyan's emotions were so transparently displayed that Jiang Yuan finally sensed something was amiss. Although Song Keyan's aberrant behavior and questions all pointed to Lin Kong, the unguarded gaze was fixed on her.
A fleeting realization crossed Jiang Yuan's mind. After a brief hesitation, she replied calmly, "Miss Song, Kong'er and I are married. Your question is meaningless."
With that, she withdrew her gaze, quietly sipping her tea to mask the turmoil within.
She had misunderstood all along; Song Keyan wasn't interested in Lin Kong but in her. The look in Song Keyan's eyes mirrored Lin Kong’s earlier ones, filled with a possessive intent.
Unfamiliar with the nuances of romance, Jiang Yuan had no desire to explore them, especially since she was Lin Kong's wife. Her priority was Lin Kong, and her main goal was to protect her family and live well together.
Song Keyan gradually regained her composure, sitting back down slowly. Watching Jiang Yuan's indifferent demeanor, she felt a pang of heartache. In a steady voice, devoid of emotion, she stated, "You can't answer because you don't like Lin Kong."
Her words, spoken with such calmness, seemed to assert a fact.
Jiang Yuan paused briefly while sipping her tea but continued without responding. She had already made her stance clear, leaving Song Keyan to interpret and decide for herself.
Lacking Jiang Yuan's patience, Song Keyan finally mustered the courage to speak, hoping to push Jiang Yuan for the answer she wanted, believing it would give her a chance. Otherwise, no matter how willful she was, or how naive Lin Kong might be, she wouldn’t pursue a married woman. If Jiang Yuan didn’t love Lin Kong, everything could change.
Glancing at her tea, Jiang Yuan remained unmoved. "What reaction should I have, according to Miss Song?"
"You..." Song Keyan faltered. She could sense Jiang Yuan's response was off, but couldn’t articulate how. Frustrated, she retorted, "You don't like Lin Kong."
She was exasperated!
Despite being repeatedly embarrassed by Jiang Yuan, she inexplicably couldn’t stop thinking about her. She herself found it hard to believe when these feelings had emerged.
Initially intrigued by Jiang Yuan, she thought of her as an annoying woman. But after a trip to the capital, she found herself still thinking about Jiang Yuan, who had since revealed her true identity as a woman and become Lin Kong's wife.
