Lin Kong was unwilling to agree, treating Jiang Yuan's words as a joke. She trailed behind Jiang Yuan, expecting to climb into bed and sleep, certain that Jiang Yuan wouldn’t truly make her sleep alone.
Jiang Yuan, well aware of Lin Kong’s thoughts, stopped and kindly advised, “Don’t follow me, or you’ll be sleeping alone every night.”
Her plan was to let Lin Kong sleep alone for a month. When winter came and the weather turned cold, they would share a bed again. By then, Lin Kong should have learned her lesson and wouldn’t dare act up.
But sleeping apart even for a day was unbearable, let alone every night.
Lin Kong quickly stopped, her face scrunched in distress, “Wife, Kong'er will be good. Didn’t you say if I behave, you won’t make me sleep alone?”
In truth, she hadn’t been particularly obedient lately, often going against Jiang Yuan’s wishes, like trying to share a bed the previous night.
Jiang Yuan squinted at Lin Kong, speaking calmly, “Didn’t you say women’s words in bed can’t be trusted? I might have agreed to sleep with you last night, but my body certainly didn’t want to.”
Using Lin Kong’s own words against her, Jiang Yuan decisively climbed into bed, turning her back to Lin Kong to sleep.
With a little devil beside her with impure thoughts, she had to keep her distance, lest things escalate beyond control.
“…” Lin Kong didn’t quite understand but realized she’d misspoken again.
Feeling wronged, she climbed into the new bed, which was similar to Jiang Yuan’s except smaller.
But it wasn’t the same.
No matter how she lay, Lin Kong felt uncomfortable. Though not particularly clingy, she was used to having someone warm beside her. Sleeping alone felt strange and unfamiliar.
Lin Kong felt abandoned, like a child left in a corner. She didn’t know what she’d done wrong, tears welling in her eyes.
Enduring her tears, she asked hesitantly, “Wife, when can I sleep with you again?”
She held onto hope; surely Jiang Yuan wouldn’t keep her away forever. She just didn’t know how long it would take.
Hearing the tremor in Lin Kong’s voice, Jiang Yuan frowned, feeling reluctant to hear her cry. After a pause, she said, “Once you realize your mistake, you can join me.”
“What did I do wrong?” Lin Kong asked, confused.
Reflecting on recent events, she only recalled displeasing Jiang Yuan by breaking a stone and spitting blood, and attempting to share a bed.
Jiang Yuan answered bluntly, “Trying to share the bed.”
“But Mother said all couples share a bed, so Kong'er isn’t wrong. I just want to share a bed with you,” Lin Kong argued, sitting up, feeling justified. If she wasn’t wrong, she could join Jiang Yuan.
Hearing the rustle of bedding, Jiang Yuan felt a twinge of anxiety, reminding, “But you shouldn’t force me. If you really want to join me, wait until you understand. Otherwise, you’ll stay in your own bed.”
