Seeing that escape was impossible for the moment, Jiang Yuan turned around reluctantly. The woman overseeing the porridge distribution was approaching with a graceful stride through the crowd.
She wore a sky-blue fox fur coat, her figure elegant. Unlike the daughters of wealthy families in the city, who adorned themselves with heavy, expensive jewelry, she wore only a simple jade hairpin. Accompanied by guards and attendants, her attire differed greatly, but Jiang Yuan recognized her as the former bandit leader at a glance.
Jiang Yuan had already suspected as much, and seeing her confirmed it, so she wasn't particularly surprised.
Lin Kong, however, was different. She stared blankly at the approaching, visibly angry woman, chewing on her sugar figurine, and asked, "Ah Yuan, doesn't she look familiar?"
She continued munching on the candy, not paying the woman any mind, entirely absorbed in her sweet treat.
Jiang Yuan quickly snatched the half-eaten sugar figurine from her hand, warning, "Don't eat like that, or you'll get cavities."
In ancient times, cavities were hard to treat, and since taking care of Lin Kong, Jiang Yuan had developed certain habits.
Seeing Jiang Yuan still concerned with sugar figurines after seeing her, Song Keyan grew even more furious. Wasn't the daughter of the prime minister's mansion worth more than a mere sugar figurine?
Remembering past embarrassments, her anger flared. She pointed at Jiang Yuan, shouting, "You did well, daring to fool me with a pile of worthless grass. I've never been humiliated like this before. Seize them!"
At her command, a dozen attendants, actually guards, surrounded Jiang Yuan and Lin Kong.
Lin Kong, oblivious, looked at them and continued asking Jiang Yuan for the sugar figurine. In her view, only the mean women in the village bullied people, not young women, so she was unconcerned.
"Ah Yuan, give it back. I promise to eat it properly next time," Lin Kong pleaded, blinking at Jiang Yuan.
Sighing, Jiang Yuan handed back the sugar figurine and then addressed Song Keyan, "Miss, you truly have skill. The daughter of a prime minister playing bandit and flaunting it publicly—such audacity, I am in awe."
Her words sparked murmurs among the porridge-seeking crowd, most expressing understanding.
"You..." Song Keyan's face flushed with anger. She pulled out a soft whip from her waist, pointing it at Jiang Yuan, "You men are all the same. Abu, why are you standing there? Seize them!"
Abu, looking troubled, replied, "Miss, before you left, the master instructed us not to disturb the public, and this matter is..."
"How dare you lecture me?" Song Keyan retorted, "I haven't blamed you yet, and now you're using my father's words against me. Should I take orders from you?"
Abu quickly lowered his head, "I wouldn't dare."
"Then get out of my way!"
Despite Jiang Yuan and Lin Kong being surrounded, Jiang Yuan remained calm, as if knowing Song Keyan wouldn't really harm her, which only fueled Song Keyan's anger. She gripped her whip and approached Jiang Yuan.
