The more evasive Lin An was, the more Jiang Yuan was convinced her suspicions were correct, or at least not far off. Her deductions were based on recent events, like Lin Kong's literacy and knowledge of martial arts moves, though some aspects needed further verification. Now, with Lin's parents gone, Lin An, the eldest sister, might know something.

Jiang Yuan feigned ignorance of Lin An’s reluctance to discuss the matter, pressing on, “Sister, is what I said true?”

Lin An took a long pause, her expression tense, reminding, “Ah Yuan, I’m not sure what you know, but Kong’er’s situation is not to be discussed lightly. Kong’er is a member of our Lin family, and has been from the start.”

Her last words lacked conviction.

Jiang Yuan noticed this, realizing they were indeed hiding something.

“You misunderstand, Sister,” Jiang Yuan explained. “Kong’er has been experiencing nocturnal fevers, with her body burning hot and sweating profusely. I’m worried something is wrong, so I’m asking if this has happened before.”

Actually, Lin Kong had only experienced this twice, but Jiang Yuan used her memory loss as an excuse to inquire without arousing suspicion.

Lin An’s face turned deathly pale with worry, “Ah Yuan, are you saying Kong’er is feverish again?”

Jiang Yuan was puzzled by Lin An's intense reaction, “Yes, it’s happened twice recently. Do you know why?”

“I don’t know.” Lin An was genuinely concerned for Lin Kong’s well-being. Since Jiang Yuan clearly knew something, she confessed, “Kong’er had one fever in the past. Afterward, she woke up dazed and has remained as she is now.”

Her fear was that another fever would worsen Lin Kong’s condition.

“Are you sure Kong’er only had one fever?” Jiang Yuan was surprised, watching Lin An’s expressions closely.

Lin Kong had told her she experienced these fevers annually, feeling sticky and uncomfortable in the morning. Yet Lin An claimed it only happened once.

Reassessing Lin An, Jiang Yuan saw her sincerity, her eyes filled only with concern for Lin Kong.

Jiang Yuan realized she couldn’t assume everyone had ill intentions but had to be cautious. Lin An had no reason to lie.

If Lin An was truthful, it meant the original owner hid the annual August 18th fevers from Lin's parents. But why?

Without the original owner’s memories, Jiang Yuan couldn’t know. The original owner wasn’t a good person.

Lin An noticed Jiang Yuan’s reaction, confused, and confirmed, “It was only once, Ah Yuan. Is Kong’er unwell? Have you seen a doctor?”

“No, she just seems uncomfortable at night, restless. I’m worried she’ll keep getting fevers, so I want to understand the cause,” Jiang Yuan said sincerely.

To her, any unknown danger should be preemptively addressed, not awaited.

Currently, Lin Kong was closest to her, and the deaths of Lin's parents were linked to her. She had no reason not to consider Lin Kong’s well-being.
