Jiang Yuan suddenly froze, her eyes fixed on her middle finger. It resembled a hollow finger, though not as eerie, yet the blue light it emitted was like a ghostly flame, casting a faint glow on her face.
As she focused on it, her head spun, her thoughts spiraling into a strange space filled with life and energy, seemingly vast and endless. Her mind flashed back to moments before her accident—receiving a blue jade pendant from that fortune teller, followed by the crash.
She hadn't managed to discard the pendant, and her middle finger had just been touching it when she was transported to this world. She had no idea where the pendant went during the transition, but the finger always throbbed with pain. Now, with just a bite from Lin Kong, a vortex appeared at the fingertip. It was hard to believe this wasn't connected to the jade pendant.
Though she didn't understand why the vortex appeared or its purpose, she knew she had to get rid of it to avoid future trouble.
Realizing this, she became aware of something else-her glowing finger was still in the presence of her foolish husband.
Looking up, she saw Lin Kong's face pale with fright, murmuring, "Wife... your finger... fire..."
Jiang Yuan didn't plan to explain the blue glow or its cause, not that she understood it herself. Calmly, she tucked her hand under the blanket, speaking nonchalantly, "My finger is fine, let's sleep."
"Oh." Lin Kong, despite his fright, nodded obediently and instinctively tried to snuggle up to Jiang Yuan, but she stopped him in time.
Lin Kong pouted with discontent, "Wife, Kong'er is scared, needs A'Yuan's hug."
Jiang Yuan's face turned cold, "No hugs."
Then, considering Lin Kong's simplicity, she sighed and closed her eyes, concentrating. She attempted to check her hand again, finding her middle finger appeared normal, with only some calluses from work. The earlier vortex seemed like a mere illusion.
Indeed, the vortex was controlled by her mind.
Feeling relieved, Jiang Yuan showed her finger to Lin Kong and patiently explained, "See, it's just a trick, nothing to be afraid of. But don't mention what you saw earlier."
Lin Kong nodded blankly, then remembered what he had been doing and pleaded, "Wife, the bridal chamber..."
Jiang Yuan: "..."
Having resolved her curiosity, she was too tired to deal with Lin Kong, dismissing him with, "Later."
Before he could respond, she warned, "No more talking, and stay off me, or you'll sleep on the floor."
Disappointed at not getting a hug, Lin Kong reluctantly agreed, "Okay."
Both lay still, finally settling to sleep.
The next morning, Jiang Yuan was awakened by the crowing of a rooster. Glancing beside her, she saw Lin Kong's head resting against her shoulder, a dreamy smile on his lips, with drool at the corner of his mouth.
Jiang Yuan wanted to shake him awake. Last night, even in sleep, Lin Kong had unconsciously snuggled into her arms, murmuring softly, likely spoiled by the original host, leaving her sleepless.
