Jiang Yuan gathered her thoughts and began using a gourd scoop to collect the grain from the silo. There were two silos in Lin Kong’s family granary, both constructed using traditional methods to keep the stored grain from becoming damp or moldy, though the storage time was closely linked to the weather.
As Jiang Yuan’s hand delved into the grain, her middle fingertip began to itch slightly, akin to a mosquito bite. She didn’t pay much attention and continued collecting the grain.
However, the more her finger came into contact with the grain, the stranger the feeling became, like a starving beast finally seeing its delicious prey, ready to devour it.
Gradually, the grain in the silo started to sink.
Was her middle finger absorbing the grain?
Jiang Yuan closed her eyes, focused her mind, and discovered she could see a deep vortex at her fingertip without using her eyes. It seemed like a bottomless pit, and staring at it too long gave the illusion of being pulled in.
Concentrating harder, she could clearly see the space within the vortex. It was empty and entirely white, resembling a primordial, chaotic world.
The grain missing from the granary appeared in this vast space, the quantity insignificant in such an expansive void.
The vortex was a massive storage space.
Jiang Yuan quickly grasped how to use this space. The operation was simple: focus her attention and use her mind to control it.
Her mind continued to explore the space, discovering a sprouting seed surrounded by a halo of green mist, radiating boundless energy and vitality.
Lin Wan had just returned from delivering a bag of grain to Lin’s mother and was shocked to see the grain in the silo rapidly diminishing, almost gone, while Jiang Yuan stood calmly with her eyes closed.
She exclaimed, “Sister A'Yuan, why is the grain disappearing?”
Jiang Yuan glanced at Lin Wan, discreetly retracting her mind, amazed that the vortex could absorb things without anyone noticing. She said, “Wan’er, check if the silo is leaking.”
Lin Wan hurried to inspect the silo’s base while Jiang Yuan returned the grain.
She had no intention of escaping or staying in the countryside forever, so the grain was of little use. Instead, she could use the vortex to store other items and achieve greater things.
After examining the silo, Lin Wan stood and was about to say there was no leak, only to see the silo full again. She rubbed her eyes, confirming the grain was still there, not an illusion.
“Sister A'Yuan, this…” Lin Wan looked at Jiang Yuan incredulously.
Jiang Yuan nonchalantly continued scooping grain, “Wan’er, you must have been seeing things. The grain was always here, and the silo isn’t leaking. I was just teasing you.”
Lin Wan: “…” She suspected she was seeing things!
The three continued milling rice. Jiang Yuan noticed Lin Kong standing nearby, cheerful despite knowing little. His face bore a constant silly smile. If not for the family’s poverty, Lin’s mother’s wish for him to live “a life without worries” might have been fulfilled.
