When Lin Kong was pushed onto the bed, her back wound struck the headboard forcefully.
"Hiss!" She grimaced in pain, gasping sharply, tears welling up but not falling, because the person before her was not Jiang Yuan, not her wife. She bit her lip, suppressing her cries.
Initially struggling, Lin Kong froze on the bed upon hearing Jiang Chen's words, eyes wide in disbelief, "What nonsense are you talking about?"
How could she possibly be this person’s brother-in-law? Suddenly, a thought struck her. If this person was truly Jiang Yuan's sister, then she would be the brother-in-law, but how did the term "junior sister" fit in?
This revelation explained Jiang Chen’s resemblance and why she’d been rescued. Lin Kong speculated inwardly. Her whole body ached, making Jiang Chen’s words difficult to process. She just stared blankly at the face identical to Jiang Yuan’s.
On closer inspection, differences were evident—at least their aura was different.
"Nonsense?" Jiang Chen stood, disdainfully wiping her hands as if Lin Kong were filthy, sneering, "Stunned already?"
"I'm not your junior sister!" Lin Kong finally grasped the situation, anger evident in her firm stance. She had only one senior sister, Shiqi.
"That’s not for you to decide." Jiang Chen chuckled, "It’s well known Qin Yuanzhong and Li Yao of Zhongli Manor were senior siblings, but... I hear they had another senior brother. Do you know who he is?"
Former fellow disciple?
Despite her confusion, Lin Kong realized Jiang Chen’s implications. If not, she truly would be foolish. She couldn’t fathom this person’s link to her enemies.
She braced herself, asking, "You’re..."
"Jiang Chen, Jiang Yuan’s twin sister, and your parents’ senior brother is my adoptive father." Jiang Chen’s tone was icy, her words tinged with chilling disdain.
The revelation stunned Lin Kong, unable to process it. If Jiang Chen was related to her enemy, did that implicate Jiang Yuan as well? She didn’t want to believe it, rejecting the idea, "That’s impossible!"
Jiang Chen leaned over, hands on the bed, eyes fixed on Lin Kong’s incredulous face, "Why not?"
Refusing to accept, Lin Kong retreated, "Wife wouldn’t have a sister like you."
She knew she was deceiving herself. Jiang Yuan and Jiang Chen looked alike, even sounding similar. She’d mistaken them initially—how could they not be sisters?
Her words ignited Jiang Chen’s temper, her face darkening, voice cold, "You think I want a sister like her?"
Despite her words, Jiang Chen’s eyes softened when mentioning Jiang Yuan, her heart conflicted.
Hearing Jiang Chen’s disdain for Jiang Yuan surprised Lin Kong. Jiang Chen was Jiang Yuan’s sister, her enemy’s ward. She couldn’t fathom Jiang Yuan’s ties to the enemy, nor Jiang Chen’s refusal to acknowledge Jiang Yuan.
At a loss, Lin Kong sat silently, pain forgotten, fearing Jiang Yuan’s involvement with the enemy.
Seeing Lin Kong’s despondence piqued Jiang Chen’s interest, her earlier words seemed forgotten. She laughed again, sinisterly, "How did you know I wasn’t her?"
