It had to have been a week later when there was a knock on Treech's door, frowning he got up from the table with his family. He hadnt been expecting anyone, but as he opened the door, he felt his heart halt, just for a moment; it was Mizzen, his small body, stood in the doorway, head lowered, his old hat tipped over his eyes. Treech hadnt even relized he was crying untill he heard him shiffling, it was only slight, but it made his heart pound. He knew something was wrong, he had barely ever seen the young boy even shed a teae
"Mizzen." He breathed out, cuasing the boy to look up, as if he handent even Relized Treech opened the door.
"Im sorry." He said quietly, shaking his head like he couldnt believe what he was going to say, and he took of his hat putting it against his heart. Mizzen stepped forward, pulling Treech into a hug.
Mizzen didnt even have to say it, for Treech to know that Avi was gone, she had to be. He felt his world caving around him, like everything he had worked to build up was crashing down. He had lost the love of his life, without even a goodbye, all hopes of her coming back to him, to live in district seven with a happy life, was shredded to peices. There wasnt a chance for her to come back, and make up for lost time. No, she wouldnt come back, no matter how much Treech begged the earth, but yet even as he felt himself breaking he held onto mizzen, like both of their lives depended on it. He tried to hold back the tears, to support him, but it was no use. They were already coming down on his cheeks, unable to be stopped. Mizzen was just a boy, and he had lost everything, left alone in the world where he so desperstly needed support, and for a moment, everyone seemed to forget that, forget that Avi was all he had. His only family, and loosing her was like loosing a peice of him.
Mizzen sobbed in his arms, not being able to hold it together, but nobody seemed to mind, and nobody judged him for it.
"Do you want to come in?" Treech spoke shakefully, feeling like at any moment he might break down too. Mizzen nodded against him, and Treech pulled him forward, into the house, as he tried to wipe his tears. His family, and the few friends he had over stared dumb founded, shocked of the mysterious boy crying at their doorstep. They had never seen him before, and was dressed nothing like them. Treech led him to the couch, and sat him down, before he crouched infront of him. Mizzen kept his small hat low, over his eyes, trying to hide the fact he was crying, but it was too obviouse for anyone not to relize.
Treech's mom stood up, her heart breaking at the boy, "oh, hunny." She spoke softly, moving to get him something off the counter; it was a warm cup of tea, and it was placed in his cold hands, Mizzen looked up for a moment, displaying his distressed eyes, before muttering a small thanks.
"Mizzen." He called out to him, drawing his attention from the cup he had yet to touch, when he spoke it made the people in the room figure out who he was, it was Avi's younger brother, the boy Treech had spoken too over the phone, and at the train when he first arrived home.
"Im supposed— to ask you." Mizzen hiccuped, his sobs breaking through his words so much, he was barely understandable. Treech didnt rush him, waiting for him to say it himself, "Funeral— at— four." He chocked out, and it was almost like it was hitting him again, his hands shaky.
Treech swallowed harshly, nodding, "hey, Mizz. Its—"
"Dont call me that!" He said snappilly, and Treech remembered it was what Avi had called him, when they were in the capital.
"Sorry, Mizzen." He corrected, "its going to be okay." He rubbed his knee.
Mizzen shook his head, not believing it himself, "No, we were supposed to go North. Thats why she didnt come to see you— we didnt want to get caught." He admitted, "But she got caught before we supposed to leave, her and Gil."
