Avi Merrit did not think the capital was very smart, if anything she believed them to be reckless and careless. Everything they every tried to do, always turned against them, as if they didnt think things through properly. They were just purely stupid— did they actually think Avi and Gil would sit in the back of the capital truck, when it was unlocked? Sure they had knocken them out, but that had only lasted a short while, and when they both awoke, even with the grogginess and the pounding of their heads, they still would do anything to get themselves out of the hands of the capital.Avi was still picking stones out of her skin as they walked through the forest, branches crunched underneath their feet, and Gil pushed away stray bushes from their walking path.
"How long till they relize we're not in the truck?" Avi asked, her voice raspy, and tired. Her legs ached beneath her, and as much as she wanted to rest, she knew they both needed to get as far away from the road as possible.
Gil shrugged, "not untill they stop— probally the capital?"
Avi sighed, flicking another stone out of her elbow. They had begun to leave imprint in her skin. She was beyond annoyed. She was tired and hungry, and most of all her head was pounding, and it was all the capitals fault. She blamed them for everything, for taking her away from her brother, Mizzen, for putting her in the games, for killing her older brother, for Leer. She didnt think revenge was even enough to make it right, she needed more than that, but most of all she needed peace, she needed to get far away from the capital just so she could have a moment to breathe. She would throw away any chance of revenge, if she could just get back to the people she loved most.
"You never really told us about your lover boy." Gil spoke up, swatting away a branch infront of them. He glanced over his shoulder at her, watching as her eyebrows knitted together, face hardening as she looked at her feet. She wiped her hands on her pants, and looked up at Gil. Her eyes twinkled for a short moment, before she shook her head at him.
"Theres nothing much to tell you about." She told him, and it was almost as if she was trying to sheild him away from Gil. Protecting him even though he didnt need to be protected.
Gil raised an eyebrow, "really? Thats not whats Mizzen told us."
"And what did Mizzen even tell you?"
"That you kissed him and everything, heard hes a real catch." Gil smirked, Avi rolled her eyes, but couldnt stop the smile that formed on her face.
"Hes such a snitch. I swear he cant keep anything to himself." Avi's smile grew more, as she began to think about Treech and Mizzen. The two boys who she cared about the most.
"He is." Agreed Gil, "Coral and him refused to tell us much though. I think they were scared you'd get mad."
"Well what do you want to know?" Avi asked, glancing around the forest as they traveled.
"Everything— well starting with his name."
"They didnt tell you his name?"
"They didnt tell us much, okay!" Gil raised his hands in surrender, making Avi laugh.
"Well his names Treech— dont start, your names litterly Gil." Avi defended when Gil's mouth twitched at his name, "Hes really caring and nice. Always has a comeback for everything. Hes insanely smart, and would do anything for his family. Oh, and he has this stupid little hat he always wears." Avi let out a soft giggle as she began to ramble, "Hes a little cocky, to be honest, but not like the arrogant kind. I think he just does it to make people laugh. he knows how to juggle, which I personally think is really stupid. Hes super sassy and he has curly hair. Its so soft—"
Gil stopped walking, turning to face Avi. He smirked at her, shaking his head with a laugh.
"What?"
"Your whipped, Avi." He told her.
"No im not." She defended.
"Do you hear yourself?" Gil raised an eyebrow, "you sound like your inlove with him."
Avi's cheeks suddenly turned a gentle pink, and she avoided Gil's eye contact as he laughed at her.
"Yeah, deffinatly whipped. I cant wait to tell Minso, how stupid you sound when talking about him." Avi wacked gil on the shoulder.
"Shut up!"
"No." He started to walk again, mimicking him, "his hairs so soft, And that stupid little hat he wears."
Avi rolled her eyes at him, but didnt say anything as Gil continued to make fun of her.
"What else is there to know about him?"
"Like you expect me to tell you now." Avi jokingly glared at him, and he continued to smirk. "Well, he has three siblings. One older, and two younger. Hes good with an axe, obviously. He looked after Mizzen in the games for me, when I couldnt." Avi paused for a moment as she remembered one last thing. "And his last name is thindrel."
Avi remembered when the two of them were always joking around, saying that Treech would take her back to seven, and get her last name changed, becuase Avi Thindrel sounded better than Avi Merrit.
Avi felt her heart skip a beat, she just wanted to see him again, to be in his arms, and feel his soft hands against hers. She wanted to hear his voice.
Gil squinted as he stepped out of the forest, somehow they had managed to make it to some kind of clearing. Avi looked around, she didnt regonize anything, all around them were trees, but just faintly Avi could make out a truck with logs of wood, stacked on top of eachother. The people around them were wearing flannels and warm clothing.
"I think we're in district seven."
Gil smirked winking at Avi, "guess you get to see loverboy after all."
