Dahyun's pov:
"Sometimes, the things we hold onto are the ones that hurt us the most. A heart that's failing, a relationship that's falling apart, or even just the fear of letting go. But in the hospital, holding on is often the only thing we can do until we can't anymore."
---
The morning air in the hospital buzzed with controlled chaos, a rhythm that the interns were slowly learning to navigate. Kim Dahyun leaned against the counter at the nurses' station, her eyes scanning the whiteboard for the day's assignments. Behind her, Sana's cheerful energy filled the room as she chatted with Yoongi and Jungkook. Park Jihyo stood apart, already immersed in her own thoughts, her clipboard clutched tightly.
"Listen up little devils! Feel awake or go home, I don't need half asleep walking donkeys in the hospital walking around today." Dr. Im Nayeon's voice sliced through the noise, immediately commanding attention. She strode in with her usual brisk confidence, her presence a force that even the most arrogant attending respected.
"Today, we've got a range of cases," she began. "But the highlight is Kim Jun Myeon, a patient in need of a heart transplant. He's in the ICU, prepped for a ventricular assist device to stabilize him until a donor becomes available. Minatozaki, you're on his case with Dr. Kim Jun Wan."
Sana's eyes lit up, her excitement barely contained. "A VAD placement? That's amazing!"
"Don't get too excited," Nayeon warned. "This isn't a field trip. You're here to observe and assist. He's a patient, don't forget that."
Jihyo whined at Sana's enthusiasm. "It should be me, I'm married to cardio!"
"I guess I'll be cardio's bitch today!" Sana shot back, her smile defiant. "I'll be so good that you won't have a place to go back."
"You wish, I'm better than all of you combined here." Jihyo retorted
Nayeon continued, ignoring their exchange. "Kim, you're with Dr. Kang in neuro for a tumor resection. Park, you're assisting Dr. Manobal in orthopedics.
"What? Bones?" Jihyo said disgustingly
"The rest of you, go get yourself down to the pit and make yourselves useful." Nayeon said and the remaining interns protested. "Do I look like I care about what you feel? When I was an intern we don't get to choose where I get to work. You're surgical interns and in the hospital, you're all at the bottom of the food chain. So, suck it up!"
---
Sana entered the ICU with her usual warmth, her expression softening as she approached Kim Jun Myeon's bed. He was pale, his breathing labored, but his eyes were bright as they met hers.
"Good morning, Mr. Kim," she said, her voice gentle. "I'm Dr. Minatozaki but... you can call me Sana, and I'm part of your surgical team."
"Sana," Jun Myeon repeated, a faint smile curving his lips. "That's a lovely name. Matches the face."
Sana blinked, momentarily thrown off by the compliment, but quickly regained her composure. "Thank you. I'll take that as a sign you're feeling optimistic."
"Always," he replied, his gaze steady. "Though I'm not sure how much longer I can keep this up."
"We're going to take care of you," she assured him. "Dr. Kim Jun Wan is one of the best."
