Protection

Bonding time.

Ambers POV

"Hey Liv. I know you're asleep so you probably can't hear me. But mum told me you're coming to live with us. You don't need to worry about being hurt anymore. It takes a little bit of time to get used too, but you're safe now. And I'll do the same. I'll protect you with all it takes."

Olivia rolls over so that she's facing me with a small smile on her face. "Why?" I look at her, leaning my head to the side a bit. "What do you mean, why?" She looks down at our hands. "Why are you doing this?" I squeeze her hand slightly. "I'm doing this because just a few weeks ago, I was in the same position as you. It helps to have someone your age next to you."

She squeezes my hand just as Jay and Erin walk back into the room. "We spoke to Dr. Manning, we're allowed to take you home. We've got some clothes for you to change into. Then we'll get going. We've already got a room set up for you."

Erin helps her up and off the bed, leading her into the bathroom so she can get changed whilst me and Jay collect all of Olivia's things together into Jay's backpack. Just as we finish packing everything away, Erin and Olivia walk back out, Erin holding Olivia up.

"Let's get going then." Dr. Manning walks in with a wheel chair. "I-I don't need that. I can- I can walk." Dr. Manning gives Olivia a look before answering. "You may think that you can walk, but you're not allowed. You'll damage your ankle more. So for the next few weeks, you're using a wheel chair."

Olivia groans whilst Erin manoeuvres her into the chair. "Come on. Let's get you ladies home." Jay grabs the handles of the wheel chair and starts to push Olivia out to the exit. "Makes a difference that we're not here for me this time." I chuckle a little bit. So does Erin.

Time skip (at home.)

"Amber, you take Olivia through to our room. Put on the movies like we talked about this morning." I push Olivia in her wheelchair through to Erin and Jays room and help her climb into the bed.

"I made you a care basket. Thought it'd be nice. I got some of the snacks I would see you eating around school. I also got you a teddy. I know it's kind of childish but I thought it looked cute and thought that you might like it but if you don't-" She cuts me off.

"I love it Amber. Thank you. Now. What movie are we watching? I always see you reading Harry Potter around school? Maybe we could watch the movies?" I let out an excited squeal. My hands flapping a little bit.

Liv grabs the remote and goes onto my Netflix account and puts Harry Potter and the philosophers stone on. Olivia opens up some of the snacks and puts them in between us for us to share.

Part way through Chamber of Secrets, my phone buzzes. I grab it off of the bed side table and see Alicia has messaged me.

Lishy x

Hey, about that date, what do you think about tomorrow? xx

I look forward too it. xx

Wear something cozy. xx

Can I know where we're going? xx

Nope xx.

Whyyyy? xx

Because that ruins the whole point of a suprise. I have to go but I'll see you tomorrow.  Byeeeee. xx

I put my phone down and Olivia pauses the movie. "So. Who's got you smiling like that?" I can feel myself blushing. "I-It's no one." I look away and she moves towards me so I'm looking at her.

"It's Alicia isn't it. You likes her!" She puts on a voice and drags out the last word. "We're- ha- we're going on a date tomorrow. As long as mum and dad let me, that is." Olivia smiles at me and jumps a little bit. "I'm sure they will. Oh my god. What're you gonna wear? What are you guys doing?"

I smile at her. "I don't know the answer to either of them questions. She did say to wear something comfy though. Maybe we'll be having a movie day?" Olivia nods, looking into the distance in thought. "Maybe. Well, we'll have to find you an outfit later on." I nod and we continue watching the movies.

Time skip.

"Girls! Dinner time!" I help Olivia into the wheelchair and wheel her into the kitchen so we can sit at the table. I help her into the chair and Erin puts our plates in front of us.

"Thanks mum." I smile at her and start eating my burger. Olivia looks at us all. "Eat up Olivia. We've all got our own plates look. You've got your own plate of food." Erin gives her a small smile, encouraging her to eat. "Thank you detective."

Erin looks back up. "It's Erin, Olivia, you don't need to call me detective." Olivia looks down. "Sorry." Jay looks up from his food, finally talking. "You don't need to apologise. It's not your fault." She nods a little bit and starts eating. "Thank you."

After we have all finished dinner, I pick up plates and start walking to the sink when Jay takes them off me. "You know that you aren't doing the dishes Amber. That's my job." I roll my eyes. "Can I at least help dad. Please?" After weeks of trying, he finally gives in. "Fine. You can load everything into the dishwasher."

I run over to wear the dishwasher stands and open it up, ready, with a smile on my face. "I don't think I've ever met a kid so excited to do chores." I laugh at him and we start cleaning. "It makes me feel useful."

He stops rinsing the dishes and turns to me. "You don't need to do chores to feel useful, Amber." I nod and look away. We continue doing the chores and we go sit on the couch for a little while, in complete silence.

I speak up, remembering I need to ask one of them about going on the date tomorrow. "Hey dad?" He hums in acknowledgement. "Would it be okay if I maybe could possibly go on a date with Olivia tomorrow please?"

He turns and looks at me, the biggest smile on his face. "Of course you can! You just have to let us know where you'll be and when you'll get home. Or to the district." I nod and smile. "I don't know yet but I'll tell you when Alicia tells me. Thank you, thank you, thank you."
