The request filed by the opposite party to continue the case has been accepted. If the petitioner dies, the court may allow the legal heirs or representatives of the deceased to be substituted in place of the original petitioner.
Time flies. This week was super hectic for Shivalika: collecting evidence, preparing witnesses, and reviewing every minute detail. It wasn't just a test of skill anymore; it felt personal. The case was sensitive. For the first time, She felt genuinely nervous. Her heart wavered in double thoughts. Did she have enough proof to prove Veer Raghuvanshi's innocence? Could she truly pull this off?
There were two evidence and one witness. Yes, her team found out everything after Aditya helped her with the information. She realised that Sameera was faking many things. Many of her statements in the courtroom had been lies. It was a carefully crafted story. And now, it was Shivalika's turn to tell the truth, She promised herself to shut the opposition lawyer, today. She won't let a single thing slip from her hand.
"Cause of death: an overdose of sleeping pills and antidepressants in an attempt at self-harm. Your Honour, the case continues, as it must, to provide justice for her." The voice of Mr. Verma, Sameera's lawyer, rang coldly through the courtroom.
"Your Honour," Mr. Verma continued, his tone heavy with grief, "My client, the late Sameera Reddy, was severely depressed. The postmortem report is on your desk for verification. She couldn't bear the trauma and fear inflicted upon her by Veer Raghuvanshi. He compelled her to take this unfortunate step. She ended her life because of him!"
"Late Sameera Reddy?" Shivalika abruptly stood from her chair, her voice firm yet calm.
For the last two hearings, she had remained quiet. Not because she wanted to, but because she had nothing substantial to counter Mr. Verma's claims. The case had been leaning in Sameera's favour. But not today. Not anymore.
Mr Verma was thinking that he will win the case, He said this to her before the trial started, He looked very confident, They both want to finish this case today, they both want to win, both of them have evidence and both are one of the best lawyers.
"Mr. Verma, did you forget what the term 'late' signifies?" she asked, a faint smile tugging at her lips.
He quickly composed himself. "I said it clearly, Ms. Chauhan—Ms. Reddy is no more. Perhaps you should have your hearing checked."
"And what evidence do you have to support that claim, Mr. Verma?" Shivalika shot back. Her voice sharpened her words cutting through the silence of the courtroom. "What if Ms Reddy is alive? What if this is all a charade? After all, her father is a sitting MLA. He has the means to fake a death certificate, even postmortem reports. Money is a powerful weapon, wouldn't you agree?"
"That's absurd!" Verma retorted. "Why would he do something so outrageous? And to his own daughter?"
"Because they want to win this case. At any cost. It was me who filed the request to continue this trial, remember? Mr Reddy had a solid plan to fake his daughter's death, thinking Veer Raghuvanshi would be punished for something he didn't even do!"
Mr. Verma scoffed, his voice rising. "He was mourning his daughter's death, Ms. Chauhan!"
"Mourning?" Shivalika's eyes burned with determination as she stepped forward. "He mourned for a month and conveniently forgot to fight for justice? Does that sound believable to you? And let's not forget, you didn't file the request to continue this case either. Why, Mr. Verma? Were you too eager to wash your hands of this case?"
The courtroom buzzed with murmurs. Shivalika stood tall, her confidence unwavering, her eyes locked on Mr. Verma. She knew she had shaken him. And she wasn't about to stop now.
