The dining room was eerily quiet, save for the soft clinking of cutlery as the twins’ mother served the steaming dishes onto the table. Taehyung, Jungkook, V, and Jimin sat stiffly, the usual warmth and laughter between them replaced by a tension that weighed heavy in the air. The twins’ father, seated at the head of the table, looked up from his glass of water, his brows slightly furrowed as he quietly observed the scene.
The mother took her seat, her expression calm but clearly tinged with lingering displeasure. Her sharp gaze swept over the boys before she finally let out a sigh and began eating.
The silence dragged on until the father, unable to ignore the tension any longer, leaned forward. "All right," he said, his voice breaking the quiet, "what’s going on here? Feels like I’ve walked into the middle of something, and no one’s telling me what."
Jungkook glanced nervously at Taehyung, who looked down at his plate, his cheeks flushing red. V and Jimin exchanged a quick, unsure glance, but neither spoke. It was clear they were leaving it to someone else to explain.
Clearing his throat, Jungkook finally took a deep breath and sat up straight, his voice steady despite the nervous knot in his stomach.
"Sir, ma’am, I… I think you deserve to know what’s going on." He hesitated, his eyes flicking toward Taehyung for reassurance before continuing.
"I love your son. I love Taehyung."
The words hung in the air, each syllable carrying the weight of his sincerity. Taehyung’s head snapped up, his eyes wide, while the mother’s brows lifted in surprise. The father leaned back slightly, his expression unreadable.
Jungkook pressed on, his voice steady but soft. "I know it might have been shocking to see earlier, and I’m sorry for how it happened, but I don’t want to hide it. Taehyung means everything to me, and I want you to know that I’ll do my best to take care of him and respect him. And both of you."
The mother’s tense expression faltered, her lips parting slightly in surprise. For a moment, the room was completely silent, the air thick with anticipation.
Finally, she let out a deep sigh, her shoulders relaxing as she leaned back in her chair. "Jungkook…" she began, her voice softer than before. "I wasn’t mad because of what I saw. I was mad because I didn’t know. You boys mean the world to me, and I hate being left out of something this important."
Her words were met with a wave of relief that washed over the table. Taehyung reached for Jungkook’s hand under the table, squeezing it tightly as his heart catched the previous rhythm.
"We had a reason to not share it with you before," Taehyung began, his eyes darting to Jungkook for reassurance before focusing on his parents.
"I love Jungkook. I love him more than anything. But I know loving him means accepting that not everyone will understand. I’ve worried about people judging us or looking at him differently because of me. And most of all…" He paused, his gaze unwavering. "I didn’t want either of you to be disappointed in us because of who we are."
The room grew silent, the weight of his words settling over everyone. Jungkook’s hand, hidden beneath the table, tightened around Taehyung’s, grounding him in the moment.
Jungkook added, his voice softer now. "I don’t want to hide what we have, but I didn’t want to hurt anyone either. That’s why I wanted to tell you tonight, so you’d know the truth—from me."
Taehyung’s voice broke slightly, and he turned to his parents, his eyes glistening. "I’ve always been scared to disappoint you—to say or do something that’d make you think less of me. But Jungkook… he’s shown me that love doesn’t have to be something I’m ashamed of."
