This was requested by @keelie2507. I hope you like it. I figured it was about time I stopped killing off poor Brutus and leaving Baria behind to deal with it. As always I don't own the characters. Happy reading loves!
Enobaria slashes at Johanna Mason, as aggressive as she can muster. She keeps an eye on Brutus as he fights off Finnick. Enobaria is stronger than Johanna, in the physical sense, but she's at a disadvantage fighting with knives against Johanna's long distance weapon, an axe.
Brutus is fighting with a long sword, against Finnick's trident. It makes Enobaria nervous, watching him fight Finnick.
Johanna shifts them so Enobaria's back is to Brutus and Finnick. It's in that position that she hears him cry out.
Enobaria grows tense and she watches Johanna freeze in place. No.
The career Victor shoves the younger girl down, throwing her ridiculously heavy axe away from her with as much gusto as she could muster, and then whirled around.
Brutus is on his knees, bleeding from a wound in his side, Finnick's trident covered in more red, while the youngest ever Victor stared in horror.
"Brutus!" Enobaria screamed. "No!"
Finnick inches back, anxious to leave, and for good reason.
For all Brutus was a tall, imposing, muscled Career, he was a sweet soul and a kind man. It was Enobaria who was the cruel, vicious pack member. She was the dangerous one. She was the ruthless one.
Enobaria bared her teeth, letting the moonlight glint off the gold inlaid in them. "Move away from him, now."
"Enobaria, I swear I didn't mean anything by it. It wasn't intentional, I swear." Finnick stammers.
"Get. Away. From. Brutus. Now." Enobaria snarls.
"Enobaria-" Finnick tries one more time.
"Now!" She lunges forward, teeth bared still, with the clear intention of aiming for the blonde's neck.
Finnick scrambled back, fleeing with Johanna into the jungle.
Enobaria falters once the two of them are gone, and hurries to Brutus's side. She's pressing her hands against the wound, when he stirs again.
"Baria?"
"Stay still, you idiot. I have to staunch the blood." She scolds, examining the wound.
It's shallow, thankfully, and she's pretty sure he'll be fine if she could get her hands on some stitches. At the very least, he won't bleed out. He'll manage to live long enough for her to get rid of the other tributes left, as much as it will pain her heart to harm Beetee, or Finnick (angry as she is with him), or even Johanna. She knows the duo from 12 by face alone but she will regret harming Haymitch's only Victors.
Enobaria will do it for him though, for Brutus. Just like she'll stab herself through the chest or stomach, so he can be the Victor of the damn Quell. So he can go home, just not with her.
Brutus smiles weakly. "Always patching me up, aren't you, Baria?"
Her stony resolve wavers at the tone he uses, warm and comfortable despite his current condition. Years worth of anxiety and pain and stress builds in her chest and behind her eyes. Tears gather, though she does her best to blink them away and keep her own voice steady.
"If you'd stop throwing yourself headfirst into trouble, I wouldn't have to patch you up." Enobaria retorts, lifting her hands slightly to see if the blood flow had lessened.
She lifts her head to the sky, frowning briefly, then steels herself again.
"Lyme! I need medical supplies. I know you can hear me! I know you can afford them! Give me what I need to fix him!" She calls to the empty area around them.
