@randomreadingeagle requested this. I hope this is good. The last few oneshots have been a bit dark but focused on siblings. This one will be a bit angsty and focused on Dex Dizznee and Marella Redek from Kotlc. I don't own the characters. Shannon Messenger does. This is set after the war with the Neverseen but without any Stellerlune details as I haven't read it yet.

Marella held Dex's hand as they stared at the Wanderling tree. The whole gang had come for this. Today marked the first anniversary of the end of the war with the Neverseen.

They all looked at the Wanderling again. Or rather Wanderlings. One tall, years old tree stood, leaning to one side. Beside it, a younger twelve month old tree leaned against it, the branches and trunk of the two tree entertaining. The Forkle Twins and whatever other identities the brothers had shared.

All gone after the final battle. Gethen had wanted to end what he'd started. So he did.

Marella tried not to shudder. The awful telepath was dead now too.

He'd been his own undoing. Too busy boasting about another perfect victory in the final battle. It got him killed by the Neverseen's own ally dwarves, however few they'd had left in the final battle. He'd been thrown to the ground by the trembling of the ground caused by the dwarves surfacing. He's been too occupied with his gloats to notice the signs of their surfacing. He'd landed on his own blade.

Marella tried harder to remove the thoughts from her mind.

Sophie was crying. Linh and Biana were too. Marella wanted to cry. But she couldn't seem in touch enough with her body, with her emotions, to feel tears pricking her eyes. Maybe she was crying. She couldn't even tell anymore.

Tam was hugging Biana, kissing her forehead and murmuring about how everything would be okay, and how he knew it hurt still but the pain would dull soon. It was all lies but Marella didn't care. She wanted it to be the truth.

Fitz and Keefe both stood beside Sophie. Keefe was holding her hand. Fitz was hugging her close.

Over the last year or two of the war, Keefe had come to realize that he was better single, regardless of his romantic love towards Sophie. His mother (the sick, deeply hated woman, Marella thought bitterly) had caused such physiological problems for him, that Keefe decided he was better on his own with a ton of friends that with one girlfriend who, in his eyes, would become the only one responsible for helping him with his problems.

He and Sophie had tried dating after he returned from the human world, but they had ended on friendly terms when he'd come to his realization and when Sophie had realized she needed time for herself too.

Sophie and Fitz had only just recently gotten back together. Fitz had learned (eventually after a long, long time, in Marella's opinion) to express his emotions in a healthy way, rather than lashing out in anger, something he'd picked up from the pressure of being a Vacker. Sophie had gotten the chance to figure out who she was outside of being the Moonlark. And they both figured out that they still loved each other, even after their disaster of a teenage relationship. So they tried again, going slow and steady. It worked much better this time around.

Marella felt Dex squeezing her hand a bit. She felt a trail of tears run down her cheek. Oh. She was crying after all. She looked towards Linh, trying to pretend she was okay.

Linh. Linh had been a bit out of it after the war. The war had scarred her physically and emotionally. Marella still struggled to looked down at her forearm, where the horrifying marks were left. Marella hated to think of how scared Linh must have been, when Gethen and Ruy had her hidden in the hideout, punishing her for Tam's "betrayal" and making her the subject of their sick tortured.
