This was requested on AO3, after Enobaria accidentally called Johanna "Jo" during chapter 20 of Inside The Mentor's Room. So here we are, I hope everyone likes it. This is compliant with Inside The Mentor's Room, although it won't accurately mention any of the games seasons I haven't yet written, to avoid spoiling anything. Just know this takes place after the 82nd Games technically, but not accurately in terms of events in the games because it's more of a focus on the characters. And as always, I don't own anything. Happy reading!
District 1:
Johanna didn't know how she's gotten stuck with Cashmere and Gloss Evermore. She didn't talk to them very much. Even when mentoring, she didn't speak much with them. They simply were her friends because they were Enobaria and Brutus's friends, and the duo from 2 were close with Blight. She wouldn't have ever talked to them at all most likely, if not for mentoring making odd friendships crop up between districts. Quite frankly, Johanna was pretty sure she didn't have many friends at all, outside of Blight, Finnick and Annie.
But, they'd ended up together, the three of them, during a Capitol gathering they were all attending following the end of the 82nd Games. Since Gloss's boy had won, the siblings from 1 were getting a lot of sponsor attention.
Johanna had decided to be a semi decent person, and had walked over when she'd noticed the siblings were being harassed (actually, it was later then that, when she realized their body guard like friends from 2 weren't with them to protect the two from the sponsors bothering them). Blight would have been pleased she was being nice, so she had taken the time out of her day, and, instead of going to get some drink or another that she could hide from Blight, she went to defend them.
It was disappointingly easy to scare off sponsors most days and that night was no exception. All she had to do was sling her axe over her shoulder, flash a threatening grin, and talk, far too casually, about how nice it would be to sink the axe blade into someone's flesh. Apparently people from the Capitol didn't like that kind of thing if it was going to happen outside of an arena.
Cowards.
The sponsors had run off and Cashmere and Gloss had looked relieved. Johanna was going to call it a day and go find that drink she wanted, when Cashmere called out to her.
"Hey, Jo!"
Johanna turned on instinct, but she was utterly taken off guard by her nickname being called out by Cashmere Evermore.
"Uhh...yeah?" Johanna asked slowly, uncertain.
"Thanks." Cashmere told her, a beautiful and genuine smile spreading across her face, a rare sight to see when in the Capitol, Johanna was sure. "We owe you one."
"Yeah, you saved our asses. Thanks, Jo. We definitely owe you one, kid." Gloss agreed, sending his own genuine, pretty smile. "You want a drink?"
Johanna hesitated, still confused. "Yeah, sure."
"Great." Gloss smirked. "It's on me."
"Ooh, Gloss is paying!" Cashmere cheered, beaming, as she looped an arm around Johanna's shoulders. "That means we can be expensive! C'mon, let's go get something nice from the bar!"
Johanna let herself get dragged off, still thinking about how Cashmere and Gloss had both called her Jo. She found that she didn't hate it, even when the nickname came from their lips.
District 2:
Johanna and Enobaria Goldstein didn't get along. That was a known fact. They bickered and fought more than any other set of mentors in the room. And it didn't just stay in the control room either. They fought whenever they saw each other, no matter where they were.
