A/n: So there is mature themes in this chapter. Mentions of S/A and such. Nothing heavy, just vague mentions. Don't read if that triggers you. Also, this is not Thundercest. As I said last time, I'm not going to write that. This is set in season four, mid-season. Finally, I don't own the characters. Nickelodeon does. I only own the plot.
Max and Phoebe Thunderman were twins. They had identical powers: freeze breath, heat breath, and telekinesis. They were a team in the running for the Z-Force. They were stronger together.
Which is why Max didn't understand why Super President Kickbutt was telling Phoebe to go off on a mission on her own.
"Wait, why just Phoebe?"
"Your sister has a higher skill set from training than you do. We need her to get this new villain." The Super President explained. "Good luck. Super President Kickbutt...Out!"
The Thunder Monitor lowered, leaving the twins in surprise. Max turned to his twin, staring nervously.
"Are you sure you can handle this?" Max asked softly.
"I can. I was Thunder Girl on my own for months before you started being a hero. I can manage." Phoebe sounded vaguely annoyed.
Max frowned but nodded. He watched her walk upstairs, and return a few minutes later in her body tight super suit. He watched her walk out the door. He watched her leave. And after she was out of sight, he suddenly became nervous. No, not nervous. Worried.
Something was wrong.
Max tried to shake it off. He just was nervous. Not worried. He knew his sister could handle herself. He was just nervous because they hadn't had solo missions in months. That was all.
But he couldn't convince himself of it. For whatever reason. He remained worried.
I'm being stupid. Phoebe can handle herself.
Max glanced at the clock. Three hours had passed already? When did the time slip by? And shouldn't Phoebe be home by now?
Barb walked into the living room to see her eldest son sitting in the couch, staring blankly at the wall.
"Max? Is everything okay?"
Her son nodded, not saying a word.
"Where's your sister?"
"Mission from Kickbutt." Max murmured.
"Alone?"
"Said something about skill set for a new villain. I wasn't allowed to go." Max shrugged, trying to make his mother think he didn't care.
He failed miserably.
"How long has she been gone?" Barb asked, gently.
"Three hours...almost four..."
Barb smiled at the way her son shifted nervously. "Are you worried about Phoebe?"
"...no? Maybe? I don't know."
Barb smiled again and nodded. "I'll leave now. Dinner is almost ready, by the way, sweetie."
"Thanks, Mom." Max mumbled, watching his mother's retreating figure.
After dinner, Max glanced again at the clock. Five, almost six hours had passed. His twin sister was not back yet.
What's taking so long?
Max tried to ignore the tugging in his stomach. He was being silly. Over dramatic. Phoebe would be fine. He was simply being over protective for no reason.
