Chloe loves being a hero. It was the single best thing in her life. As much as she loved her hobbies and her activities that were done for fun. But she's always loved saving others more than anything else.
She'll admit, it's not a safe thing to do. Being a hero is all about throwing yourself into danger to protect the innocent people that super villains liked to target.
Chloe would gladly do it anyway. She was a super hero, she could take the hits for the civilians who could not.
That is exactly how she ends up in the situation she's in. Her family was sent out to a big city to defend it against some villain or another.
Chloe is in charge of evacuations with Billy. She's able to help get most of the civilians out before she notices a stray foot soldier getting a little too close for comfort.
She's distracted and that's why she's struck down. She sees an attack going towards a citizen and she moves in front, taking the hit with a wince. It's a clean shot, some sort of bullet, through her arm.
A minor hit, in all fairness, but a hit that draws blood all the same.
Chloe hisses through her teeth, slowly rising to her feet again, and hurrying off. It's a small thing to handle, and she's taken worse.
She has to finish helping evacuate the citizens.
She ignores her wound for perhaps too long.
It's at the end of the battle that she collapses. Pain is searing through her body, her shoulder feels aflame, and she can't seem to summon the strength to use her powers.
Billy finds her quickly, as he does everything. He takes one look at her and then lifts her up.
"What'd you do, Chloe?" He asks, shaking his head at her.
"I took a hit." She grunts in return, hissing in pain when her arm is jostled.
"I see that. What hit you?" Billy replies.
He doesn't sound like the slow, silly brother Chloe is familiar with. He sounds...angry almost. Tense perhaps.
"Some bullet or another." She admits.
"You had a bullet wound and didn't want to tell anybody?" Billy scolds.
"I had to help evacuate the civilians!"
"Chloe, dust and dirt could have gotten into the wound and made it worse!" Billy scolded her again and she deflates.
"I'm sorry."
"Come on." He sighs. "Let's just get you help, the battle is ending anyway."
She nods weakly, because he's right and her arm hurts badly anyway.
Billy speeds away from the battle with her and she winds up near the temporary first aid station that the Hero League had sent.
It's mostly for the innocent people in the city, but it has some stuff for supes too. Billy pesters a doctor into helping treat her quickly and then zooms off, likely to find their family.
She's proven right, when, twenty minutes later, the rest of the Thundermans arrive.
Phoebe and Max are filling out some forms for the Hero League but they direct their attention, soft and gentle like always, to her once they spot her. For all they used to deny their connection when they were younger, there is no doubting their bond as twins now.
Nora embraces her quickly, muttering insults about how Chloe never should have ignored her wounds but holding her tight anyway and Chloe knows she is forgiven.
Barb and Hank are, of course, angry that she did not get help initially, and scold her repeatedly for it, in their usual helicopter parent way, but it gives way to embraces and muttering about how she'd know better next time.
Nobody comments on how they all know Chloe will not seek help the next time this happens nor how nobody else would either.
It is not in the Thunderman nature to back away from a battle until the end, even if injuries are obtained.
It's never been in their nature.
"How about we go out to get some food after Chloe's given the green light?" Max suggests, smiling to reassure their parents. "Celebrate a job well done as a team and get the kid something to make her feel a little better."
Barb and Hank exchange looks briefly.
"Alright, that sounds nice." Barb concedes, frowning a little at her husband's begging look.
"Yes!" Hank cheers, getting some eye rolls from his teenage daughter and son, and some chuckles from Chloe and the twins.
Barb sighs at Hank's childish antics.
"I'll check to see if she's good." Billy offers, zipping away when given the approving nod from both Phoebe and Barb.
Nora sighs, fidgeting with her bow necklace, as the others walk away to talk with Chloe's doctor.
"You could have died, you know that?" Nora whispers, looking at Chloe sadly.
"What do you mean, Nora?" Chloe asks slowly, unsure.
That's always been a risk as a Superhero. It's been a risk since she was a little girl and it'll remain a risk until she's an old woman ready to retire and watch her grandchildren become heroes themselves.
"You can't ignore these sort of injuries, Chloe. It could kill you one day." Nora tells her firmly, and she sounds so upset that Chloe glances away. "I don't wanna see you get hurt. I don't wanna see you die!"
"I'm sorry, Nora." Chloe murmurs, because what else can she even say to that?
"I know." Nora takes a deep breath and continues quieter this time. "I'm sorry I yelled. I just...you're my baby sister. I don't want you to hurt yourself more than this job already does. That's all. Be more careful, okay? Get help when you're hurt."
Chloe nods. "I will. Promise."
"Thank you." Nora exhales softly, hugging her tightly. "Love you, little sis."
"Love you too, Nora." Chloe whispers, curling closer with a soft smile.
The others return a little while later, and the family leaves, stopping home to change into their civilian clothes before heading out to get food.
They let Chloe pick the place, and she decides on her favorite Italian place. The family has a nice meal out for the first time in a while.
It's nice.
Chloe knows she'll be more careful next time. But she knows she'll take the hit anyway, push comes to shove. Especially with her loving family there to help pick her back up again after.
