Thanks to the help of Law and his crew, you were escorted safely to the island you first met Machi on. The same island with the Seraphine ruins scattered all around it, broken down to leave ancient remnants of what it once was.
Machi welcomed you back onto the island without a moment's hesitation, expressing how worried she was for you when you suddenly abandoned Marineford with Luffy and Jinbe. You were already missing Luffy, despite having seem him only a few days ago. Or was it simply worry coursing through you, making you overthink for his safety? You didn't know.
Just like you said you would, you read through the newspaper sent out to dozens of different islands in the Grand Line. Luffy was the star of the paper, his picture being on the front cover. He stood in front of Marineford, eyes closed with his hat to his chest. There were more details about his actions in the text.
Hopefully the others all understood his intentions. You knew they were definitely worried after having heard that Ace was met with the embrace of death, and that they would act recklessly to escape whatever predicament Kuma placed them in to reunite back on Sabaody.
Two years. Then you'd see them again.
When the time came, you could only hope you'd be strong enough to assist in their protection. Especially Luffy's. Ace's words never left your mind -- a constant reminder of your duty to your captain.

You already acknowledged the fact that he most likely said the same to the rest of the crew, back when he met them in Nefertari Vivi's country, Alabasta. But, still... You took it seriously, and held his hopes for you in an extremely high regard.
He uttered those words to you a mere second before his collapse, making it mean all the more to you. It was exceptionally hard for you to part with Luffy after making a mental promise to Ace to look after him -- but you knew Rayleigh wouldn't let him die, and would work his behind off to get stronger.
