Just as you expected, as soon as Luffy threw himself onto the battlefield, many pirates and even the infamous allies he brought with him on that warship followed in tow, rallied and inspired by his determination to get Ace back.
So many things had played out for you to get to the point you were at. Unwanted short encounters, such as with Kuma and Kizaru, who didn't say much. They just wanted you and Luffy dead.
Ace told Luffy from afar to leave at one point, since it wasn't his fight, and he had no right to intrude in his life. But Luffy rebutted by saying that he was his brother, and that it was okay for him to save his life for that reason alone. The entire battlefield, except the Whitebeard Pirates, all seemed to jolt from surprise. They didn't know that Luffy was Ace's brother.
It was also later revealed to everyone that Luffy was the son of Dragon, the worst criminal in history. You already knew, of course -- but what you didn't expect was for Ace to be Roger's son. But, honestly, what did you expect? Those two brothers were quite literally monstrous.
You also learned that the war was being broadcasted across the entire world. Everyone now knew the origins behind Luffy and Ace. They also knew that you were at the war, too... Uh-oh.
After having enough of your own fights, you regrouped with your captain, running alongside many of Whitebeard's grand fleet allies, and lots of other well-known names amongst the pirate world. Eventually, Jinbe ran off to hold back Moria, and Ivankov -- or just Ivan -- did the same, but with Kuma.
Everything was going... somewhat smoothly, until an unfamiliar grey-haired man with two cigars in between his teeth rushed forward in the form of smoke, striking Luffy's face with a jitte that pushed him far off a few steps back.
"Ouch! You are... Smokey!" Luffy acknowledged the man, his name being unknown to you. 'Smokey' is what your captain must've nicknamed him, though, so you were just going to go along with that. He seemed awfully weak after being hit with Smokey's jitte, successfully confusing you -- but he seemed to be familiar with the weapon. "Oh yeah, that jitte is tipped with Sea Prism Stone! That bastard! Second Gear..."
Luffy tried to fight back in Second Gear, but all of his punches went straight through Smokey, whose body turned into smoke when attacked.
"Captain! He's a Logia, your attacks can't hurt him--!" You tried to intervene, but a blue-haired woman with red glasses got in your way, blocking your path with a sword. "Who are you?"
