TWO YEARS LATER
"WAAAHHH!! [Name], you're leaving already?!" Machi cried out, holding tightly onto the hems of your garments so you wouldn't leave her side. "This is unbelievable! Can't you just train with me for another two years?!"
"Machi-san, I promised my captain that I'd meet back up with him and the others here. As much as I love your company, I have to go now," You huffed, turning on your heel to bring Machi in for a gentle embrace. "Thank you for everything. I mean it."
"Don't say it like that! You make it sound like we won't meet again in the future!" Your mentor scolded, lightly hitting you on the head out of irritation and concern. She shook her head, and pulled away from you. "Alright, alright. I won't pester you any further on this matter. Just promise me you'll be safe, okay? I won't leave until I know you're safe."
"Machi--" You reached out your hand to reassure her, but she swatted it away, and instead pulled a hood over your head. "Hm? What's this for?"
"To hide you from the Navy, obviously. There's no doubt that they are swarming every inch of this place at the moment, looking for any pirate stragglers passing through," She informed, and you could feel your muscles tense. Noticing how rigid you became at the mention of the Navy, she rested her hand on your shoulder comfortingly. "Promise me one more thing, as well. Don't lash out at any of the soldiers. I know how you feel, but most of them served no part in your past. A handful of them don't even know about the corruption caused by their superiors."
"I... I know that. And I'll try. I mean--I'll try to not let my emotions get the better of me. I promise," You forced a smile, and it could be considered as completely fake. Two years ago, you learned of your past. Two years ago, hatred and anger settled within your veins. But you wouldn't let it harness you. "Seriously, though. I cant thank you enough for what you've done for me over the past two years. Because of you, I have another chance at adventure again..."
