Taraji POV
The long driveway curves like something out of a movie, the sleek black gates parting for me as I approach. The glow of the mansion is warm against the deep blue night, the soft exterior lighting making the towering glass panels gleam. Home. It still feels surreal sometimes, stepping into a space like this, knowing it's mine—ours.
I pull the car up to the entrance, stepping out onto the smooth marble driveway. The evening air is cool against my skin, carrying the scent of fresh jasmine from the garden Fantasia had insisted on planting along the front walkway. I take a slow breath, letting the tranquility of it settle over me.
The heavy oak doors open at my touch, and the moment I step inside, I feel it—the shift. The world outside falls away, replaced by the warmth of dim lighting, the scent of vanilla and spice curling through the air. The Italian marble floors gleam under the soft glow of the chandeliers, and somewhere in the background, the smooth hum of jazz plays through the surround speakers.
"Baby, that you?" Fantasia's voice floats from the kitchen, rich and familiar.
I smile to myself, setting my purse down on the glass console table by the entrance. "Yeah, it's me," I call back, slipping off my coat and draping it over the velvet bench near the staircase.
My heels click softly against the floor as I make my way through the expansive open-concept space. The fireplace in the great room casts flickering shadows along the walls, and the plush sectional, with its soft cream throws, looks so inviting I almost sink into it. But the real warmth is ahead of me—in the kitchen, where Fantasia's silhouette moves behind the oversized island, where the glow of pendant lights catches the curves of her face, where a bottle of red and two crystal glasses wait.
Leaning against the marble island, Fantasia stood with her new styled short curls, her toned arms resting casually on the counter. She's wearing a silk robe, barely tied, revealing the soft chocolate skin underneath. She turns toward me, a slow smile stretching across her full lips, and my chest tightens just at the sight of her.
"There she is," she says, her voice sweet like honey.
I set my keys down and walk toward her, and before I can say anything, she closes the distance, her arms slipping around my waist, her lips pressing against my cheek in a lingering kiss. The warmth of her body, the faint scent of black walnut and white tobacco on her skin, pulls me deeper into the moment.
"Miss me?" I tease, running my fingers lightly over the curve of her waist.
She exhales a small laugh, brushing her lips against my jawline before stepping back. "You already know."
I watch as she reaches for the wine bottle on the counter, her movements slow and deliberate, like she knows I'm watching. The pendant lights above cast a golden glow on her skin, making her look almost ethereal. She pours us each a glass, handing me one before taking a sip of her own.
"How was your day?" I ask, leaning against the counter, my eyes locked on hers over the rim of my glass.
Fantasia tilts her head, considering for a moment before answering. "Busy. Spent most of the day with Dani—she's talking about taking a trip to Mexico, some kind of 'reset' before the next big project. You know how she is."
I chuckle. Dani had a way of treating every career move like a cosmic journey.
"And then I had that meeting with my assistant, locking in some upcoming gigs. It's looking good, baby. Got a few major performances lined up, some brand partnerships. Oh, and I might be doing a collab with a designer for a custom fashion line."
My eyebrows lift. "A fashion line? You didn't tell me that."
She shrugs, a playful smirk tugging at her lips. "Wanted to see the look on your face when I did."
