Taraji POV

The door swung open, and there she was-Tasha, looking just as radiant as ever. The moment I saw her, I couldn't help but feel a weight lift, like the universe had finally given me a break. It had been too long, too many months since I'd had a real conversation with her. Life had a way of moving fast, and it always felt like there was no time to slow down, but when she walked in, everything seemed to pause.

"Girl, we have not seen each other for a minute," she said, walking straight to me with that big, familiar grin on her face. "Catch me up. What's been going on with you?"

I felt myself smile back, but it was tight, like it wasn't quite reaching my eyes. Still, I was grateful. Grateful for her. I gestured toward the couch, knowing we'd both be more comfortable sitting down and really talking.

As we settled, the weight of the past year seemed to sit in the room with us. I tried to shake it off, but it was hard. Tasha could always tell when something was off with me, and this time, it wasn't just one thing. It was everything.

"Girl, where do I even begin?" I muttered, rubbing my forehead. "Everything's been... a lot. The past year, it feels like I've been living in two different worlds. On one hand, I'm doing the thing I love. Filming The Color Purple, it's everything I could've dreamed of. Working with Fantasia... it's something different, Tasha. Something real. The connection we have, it's unmatched. It's not just on the screen. We vibe, like... there's an energy there I can't even explain."

I paused, realizing I was talking faster than I meant to. Tasha was quiet, listening, but her eyes were sharp, always reading me. She was waiting for me to say the things I hadn't gotten out yet.

"But wait," I said, taking a deep breath, "I'm not even getting to the hard part. It's just... everything's been too much, and I don't even know how to hold it all together anymore."

Tasha leaned in a little, her concern written all over her face. "Take your time," she said gently. "I'm here, Taraji. You know I'm always here."

I could feel myself pulling back, the familiar instinct to keep it together taking over. I wasn't about to break down in front of her-not this time. I didn't have the energy for tears anymore. I had cried enough for a lifetime.

"Tasha," I started, my voice steady but heavy with everything I was carrying. "You know my son came back home, right? After everything that happened, I thought we were going to get it right. We'd been through so much, but we were working on it. And then... he passed away. Just like that. I didn't see it coming. It hit me like a freight train, and now... I'm just trying to figure out how to live with the fact that he's gone. I don't know how to do this without him, you know? And I don't even know if I'll ever find a way to heal from that. It's been... it's been tough."

I didn't let my voice waver. I didn't want to go there. I was done crying. It didn't make anything better. The tears, the pain, the loss-it was all still there, but I wasn't going to let it control me anymore. Not in front of Tasha, not in front of anyone.

She sat back for a moment, her hand resting on mine. I could feel her heart in that gesture, but she knew better than to try and fix it. Tasha never pushed me when I wasn't ready to open up.

"I'm sorry, Taraji," she said softly. "I didn't know. I had no idea."

I shook my head, cutting her off before she could say more. "It's fine. I don't need anyone's pity, Tasha. I'm here. I'm still standing, aren't I?" I let out a small, half-hearted laugh, but it didn't quite reach my eyes.

She didn't say anything else, just squeezed my hand tighter, and I appreciated that more than she knew.

"Girl, let me tell you something else," I continued, shifting in my seat. "Three weeks ago, I caught Sir and my partner in the parking lot. They were kissing, Tasha. It wasn't even a real kiss. It was forced. I obviously know he was being a bitch about us being together. I don't know what the hell that was, but it felt like a punch in the gut."
