"Why, Morgan? Why'd you do it? Why?!"

"Because I want to be somebody! Okay? And it ain't gonna happen being the wife of some has-been player with some bullshit contract, Iiving in some podunk city. You wanted to know why, now you know."

"You can't possibly be this messed up."

"You do you, and I do me, okay?"

"I've been watching you 'do you' your whole life. Using people, hurting them. Discarding boyfriends like old shoes."

"Well, we all can't be Saint Leslie Wright."

"You got problems."

Jazmine stared at the tv absentmindedly as Just Wright played. She had seen the movie hundreds of times before and could basically quote it word from word at this point. It was a comfort film for her. Something she would watch whenever she felt sad.

"Jazmine how are you currently feeling?"

"The medicine y'all gave me helped with the cramps, but I'm still experiencing some pretty heavy bleeding."

"Your labs have come back, and unfortunately your HCG levels have plummeted since last night and we can no longer detect the fetal pole. This confirms our fears of this being a miscarriage. I'm so sorry."

"H-How did this happen? Was it something that I did?"

"No there was nothing that you could have done or didn't do that would have prevented this. Your body simply identified something in the DNA of the fetus and recognized it wouldn't be able to carry the pregnancy full term. Our ultrasound shows the baby stopped developing after ten weeks. That's why we were unable to detect a fetal heartbeat. I know it's not the answer you're looking for, but please don't blame yourself."

Jazmine felt herself overcome with emotion once again as flashbacks of her emergency visit to the hospital washed over her. Losing her baby had left her strangled with grief, shame, and guilt. Nothing in her world made sense anymore. She was left with a void that she didn't know how to fill.

"Jazzy! Jazzy!"

Alyson's little voice seeped through the cracks of Jazmine's bedroom door as she tried to open the locked door.

"Alyson don't bother your sister right now. We need to give her, her space," Aunt Jennifer called out.

"But we've been giving her space for days now," Alyson pouted. Her 5 year old mind couldn't comprehend what Jazmine was going through.

The sound of Jennifer's house shoes smacking against the wooden floor drew closer. "Come help me finish baking this lemon cake. We'll give Jazmine a slice when we're done. Sound good?"
